Yesterday was tough... I can't stop eating sugary foods :( I know once I get out of the habit of eating them, I'll stop craving them - but in the meantime, the middle of the afternoon hits and my brain starts screaming "GIVE ME SUGAR!!!"...

Well, try again today. I think part of my problem is that I'm not getting the 30 grams of protein I need in the mornings to follow the 4HB diet. When I do that, I'm not hungry for hours. But we're still trying to finish off leftovers and I don't want to go grocery shopping until we do. We have a TON of vegetables from our winter CSA, but no meat/protein besides turkey.

On the bright side yesterday I did exercise - I did the first day of the first week in both 100 pushups and 200 squats. The squats were pretty easy, so at the end I added a long wall sit. But the pushups were NOT easy... by the end I could barely eek out the last few, let alone do any extra.

Welcome back Ghenne! 100 pushups! OMG! 200 squats! owww! I'm sure you've worked up to it, but I'm pretty sure I would barely be able to get out of bed the next day :) Great effort on your workouts, and adjusting to less sugar will come with time. Can you satisfy your afternoon craving with just a *little* treat? Maybe a few strawberries or just one piece of hard candy? That might help you cut down.

Thanks for the support :) I can't actually do the 100 pushups or 200 squats yet... I'm starting the programs though so in a month or so I should be able to! (http://www.hundredpushups.com/) Yesterday I did a total of 48 pushups, broken up into 5 sets separated by 90 second breaks. The total of squats was about 130 in the same manner. I've considered satisfying the afternoon craving with a tiny treat, but the problem is once I give in to the sweet tooth my will power disappears entirely. I've been doing well today avoiding sweets by chewing a lot of gum - hopefully I can make it through today without any sweets! I've done this before, so I know for 3 days of no sweets I'll be tired, cranky, and craving everything sugary - but day 4 will be awesome and the habit will be broken! I can't wait :)

:) That's still quite a few pushups and squats! Good luck with working up to your goal!

But there is still sugar in the gum. Try this: In order for your body to adapt to burning fat instead of sugar, replace non-vegetable carbohydrates in your diet with high-quality healthful fats. Raw nuts are one source of such fats. Almonds are terrific & really good for you. But any kind of nuts, raw or dry roasted, will help keep you away from sweets. Also sunflower seeds satisfy that need to munch. (keep up the good work)
