Took time off work today to get my vegetable garden planted. It took 4 hours to get it done...but we should have tomatoes after planting 14 tomato plants, watermelon, butternut squash, cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, cucumbers, dill, zucchini and sunflowers. All along with some pretty flowers.
Then we should have strawberries, raspberries and blueberries from our gardens as well.
Love being able to reap the benefits of a hobby.
don't love being extremely sunburnt... :( but had to be out there getting the garden planted or it was going to be too late in the season to do it.

Wow! We have almost identical plants. You have a few I don't but the sunflowers struck a chord with me and hubs just put in some blackberries and raspberries. I am so looking forward to fresh off the vine tomatoes, squash, and cucumbers. Not too mention cantaloupe, watermelon, zucchini!

We bought some cantaloupe seeds but it was too late to put those in. I couldn't find a started plants of the cantaloupe like I was able with some of the others. Guess we will have some seeds for next year. We will just keep them in the fridge until next year. Fresh out of your own garden is the best! I haven't been able to garden for 3 years...so I was itching to get everything back in shape at our house. As a bonus since my hubby and daughters have rabbits I have ready fertilizer to use as well. We planted the watermelon on a big pile of 2 year old manure...it had decomposed to really fertile loam. Should be interesting to see how many watermelons we end up with and how big they are...my science experiment of the year! My favorite thing in the garden though will be my husband's dinner plate dahlias. They are gorgeous and he is wonderful at taking care of them. This year he said the tubers looked a little off. We will have to see what happens. It was also late getting those in. Hopefully they catch up quick in the warm soil. The real benefit was accomplishing 4 hours of gardening in a week day! That is my kind of exercise. Something that you can see the results from.
