Whole30 Wrap-up

The last 6 weeks I learned that my body cannot handle all foods. Even foods that are deemed healthy can cause issues for me. Beans, broccoli, milk and gluten are why I am the only person in the group exhibiting food poisoning symptoms when everyone else is fine. I can add rice and potatoes back into my diet now.

I will be ordering gluten free baked goods with my cappuccino with oatmilk like a hipster now. 🙃🙃🙃

This is coconut yogurt with fresh fruits from the farmers market. The banana is from Costco.

Fun fact of the Day:

The Chinese word for “happy” is 開心/开心 which can literally be translated as “open-hearted” and Dean Ornish proposes that perhaps being “open-hearted” in this sense is a much simpler and more effective route to good health than needing to have your heart opened for you by a surgeon! -Talk Chineasy

Me too Ashley. I stayed away from many carbs, especially grains, thinking that was the problem. I’m glad I can add some back.

Interesting. I think that's a round about connection to less stress ~ and we've all seen the medical reports proving the damaging results of extended stress. So ~ open heart = happy. Hopefully happy = less stress. Thoughts?

Bella, when I feel stress I take it out on the mat. Whether it’s the judo mats or the yoga mats , for that 1-1.5 hr I’m not thinking about the stressors. Yoga done properly involves deep breathing, a therapeutic form of meditation that psychologists use to calm the mind/heart. Almost always when I come back, the problem will have resolved itself or I have a solution in mind. I think exercise is my way of stress management.

Bella, I also simplified my life significantly. It takes practice to not let the chaos of life affect the calm within. Sometimes I do respond to wild storms but that is different from a reaction. Reactions are impulsive, I take hours and sometimes days to reflect before crafting a response.

Is that kumquat in the middle or something less sour? 🍊🤭

That is a kumquat, mmi❣️ Good eye❣️ The sweetness is in the rind, so when eaten together the rind counters the sour flesh.

Thank adultosaur, I’m going to tweak it a little and see if it’s the abundance, the timing or the mix of gluten that messes me up as suggested by Erq❣️🐮💞💞💞🦖❣️☺️☺️☺️

I am so happy that you are making progress in your efforts to find the foods that are giving you so much trouble.

Thank you ln2it, I’m happy to have sorted it out too. ☺️☺️☺️ It was challenging the first 2 times I did it, but this time I got through the reintroduction phase❣️❣️❣️

Those foods you mention make you feel sick (broccoli, beans, milk) remind me of the intolerance to FODMAPs some people have. You may be intolerant to certain FODMAPs included in these foods. FODMAPs stands for Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides, and Polyols, which are short-chain carbohydrates and sugar alcohols that may be poorly absorbed by the body, resulting in abdominal pain and bloating. FODMAPs occur in some foods naturally or as additives. I’d suggest you read about it. Monash University is a pioneer in the research on fodmaps and has an excellent app to know which foods have each kind of fodmap and help you plan your shopping and meals.

Eva, I didn’t get the book so I don’t know how the creator of whole30 chose the food categories. I did notice that when I did a search for food triggered autoimmune diseases, almost all the foood eliminated in the first 30 days were included (exception is nightshade veggies🍅🍆🥔🌶). Thank you Eva for taking the time to send me solid info. I’ll incorporate certain items that I don’t normally eat into my diet and see if FODMAPS is the reason.
