Good Morning, FS Warriors!
Had a pretty busy evening yesterday, picking up the transmission for SD's car, mowing the south yard and knocking down knee-high grass in the culvert alongside the roads. Got done about 9:15 PM and knew that if I got on the treadmill, I would be too wound up to go right to bed at 10, so I didn't. But I got a pretty good workout as it was.

Got on the scale this morning - back down to 238.0. I really don't care too much about the fluctuation right now - as long as its 236.5 by Friday, and I don't lose $20. I'm starting to be more and more skeptical it is going to happen though. There is only 4 of us left in the challenge; 3 or 4 dropped out after they had to pay their first $20. But you know what they say, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going." The rest of us had a discussion on what we're going to do with the pot when this is over. We all agreed that none of us really expected to have the cash handed over because we had the most loss. We thought about donating the money to charity, and we all thought that might be a good idea. However, one member brought up the fact that that wasn't all that motivating. We can all give to charity any time we want. If we know that the money will go to charity, then we might have a tendency to overindulge and justify it to ourselves by saying, "Oh well, it's going to a good cause." Some offered that maybe we ought to use it for a Christmas party, but then those that didn't participate also benefit from our misfortunes. So anyway, what do you guys think? Any ideas?

Toodles!

Hmmm... that's a tough one! Can you give it to the person with the most % of weight lost? Then it's a little more 'fair'? Or maybe just put the names of those that have stuck with it in a hat and draw one? Or use it to buy a gift certificate for a massage or health food store or gym and then give it to the person with the most % lost.. I'm not sure, kind of stumped here! :)

Well, I don't know, Erika. There's a mix of men and women. Everything I read, and I think it could be backed up by what I see on FS, men generally lose weight easier than women. In light of that, giving the reward to the one who lost the greatest % might not be perceived as fair either. I'd feel a little bad about not including those who were in it for a while, but gave up so much money that they dropped out. I think you might have something there concerning a "healthy" reward - just don't know how we would fairly pick the recipient. I think we view it as a healthy competition - but mostly against ourselves - like for a PR in running or a lower golf score. I don't think any of us want to benefit from the misfortune of others. It's kind of a "catch 22."

What about a "day out" for all those that participated - at a healthy /active venue of course. Or a voucher for plants, or books - connected to 'healthy living' or perhaps tickets to the theatre or similar.

I say go out and celebrate in a pub... the winner gets to buy the drinks. LOL! Hey, everyone wins by losing..... (play on words) but the real winner has the satisfaction of knowing he outdid everyone else and it's really his celebration. Well, I like a party no matter what the reason... it's been a while. ahem. Anyway, this isn't about me....it's about you all... but I still like my idea. What do you think? If they don't imbibe, then they can have a diet soda. :)

Haha, Sandy; make the "winner" the designated driver - either he or she is going to sandbag to keep from being the designated driver (and contribute even more to the pot), or like you said, be content with the satisfaction of having won, and let the others inbibe. Sk1nny, I like your ideas, the biggest challenge being to fairly decide fairly who is indeed the winner.

Yeah, I agree that men can lose faster than women - when we had our staff weight loss competition last year, our principal dropped weight like CRAZY and won the challenge, but wasn't any healthier in the end.. And it's tough that you didn't set the parameters for what happens to the money from the beginning.. hmm.. Maybe you can keep the money together and use it to buy healthy 'things' (like a pedometer, ankle weights, hand weights, healthy snacks, etc.) and raffle them off in a random drawing to everyone that participated..??

I like it, Erika! Maybe a drawing and the number of gifts match the number of participants, with some gifts a little better than others.
