CMR's Journal, 28 June 2019

Happy Weekend B4 the 4th.

Lots of goings on for this journal. I should probably split it up, so thanks for reading. My journals are primarily for me anyway, right?

First, let's start where I left off, Father's Day weekend. It was fantastic...other than I couldn't spend it with my younger son. He and my wife headed out to Minnesota that Friday. However, my oldest had a swim lesson and a baseball game, where I am an asst. coach. We spent that afternoon by the pool and made s'mores in the evening. Too bad it was rainy for Father's Day or we would have done more of the same. We did have a video call and played Hot/Cold for my FD present. I got an electric smoker. May break it out either this weekend or next.

Monday was my oldest's last day of school, and we headed out to MN in the morning. I overslept my alarm by an hour, but we got to the airport and on the plane in time to let the anxiety dissipate. Our plane from ORD to Fargo was delayed an hour and a half though. For the next two days, both boys had fun with their cousins.

Thursday is when the fireworks started. We were set to drive from Detroit Lakes to Barnum for my niece's graduation party, but an hour into the trip, the car I was driving with my wife, youngest son, and 2YO nephew was more or less T-boned. My wife has a few black and blues and a scrap, but thanks to modern Toyota technology and side curtain airbags, it seems those were the only PHYSICAL injuries. Thankfully my oldest was not in the car, because my nephew's 5-pt harness car seat kept him physically safe.

We got to the grad party (albeit 6 hours later than we intended) and returned to Fargo for another nephew's wedding, but the accident made the "vacation" memorable in a completely different manner than I usually intend.

Healthwise, I more than got my steps everyday and I received more than a few compliments from family members. I thought it was going to be a better showing, given my last weigh-in was two weeks ago and I was way down by Sunday. On the other hand, I did the WBNR after I mowed the lawn. I was pretty dehydrated to go along with the accident and I was out of my element in MN. C'est la vie. It is trending down. I also set a new goal. My ultimate goal remains 199, but my baby-step goal is the lowest I've been as an adult, last achieved the 1st journey on Fat Secret in 2010/11.

Next week is The 4th. My boys are spending the week with my parents, and my wife and I are going to commute every other day from Massachusetts. Historically, I can make it to work from there in about 1:15-1:20. My hyper vigilance since last Thursday will most likely slow me down. An monitoring of intake will be better than when I was in MN, but I won't beat myself up too bad for cheating come next weekend.

Have a safe and Happy 4th of July, everyone.
