Vitamins. Hmmmm. I need help.

I have been taking the same vitamins since I started. And now I'm going to admit my problem. They make me throw up. Not every day, mind you. Just every other day!!

I refuse to buy vitamins that have a lot of preservatives in them, so, of course, I go with an "all-natural" brand. I mean, isn't the idea to get all these toxins OUT of my body?? So why would I put more in with my vitamins?

Anyway, I take these "Iron Free Multi One" capsules. I think the problem comes when that outer layer dissolves in my stomache and suddenly there is this RUSH of stuff in my system and I can't keep it down. I usually try to eat a little something when I take it - sometimes that helps, other times it doesn't. And I can't move. If I sit and let the vitamin get into my body, I can fight the nausiation (is that a word??). But, God forbid, I have things to do and I pop the vitamin and try to go somewhere or get something done. Suddenly I'm overcome with waves of "oh my God"s and I find myself puking in an empty cup in my car!!! (Thank God i don't clean my car out all that often!!!)

And now, after doing this for months, I have found myself avoiding my vitamins. Forcing that little pill down has become the focus of my mornings - and I went almost two weeks without taking them at all because I just didn't want to deal with it....

Please, FS buddies - help me!! Do you have any suggestions for the kinds that you take? I am fine with my fish oil pills. Those are no problem. What does everyone else take for a multivitamin?

Paige, I've always been sensitive to vitamins and have had similar experiences to yours. My doctor recommended Flintstones. They're a mild version of what they give adults, which was PERFECT for me. Maybe you could try that! I used to buy the chewable (flavored with artificial sugar)

I liked them so much, I kept bragging about them. Now, my whole family buys Flintstones children's vitamins!

Maybe you should take your vitamin after you have eaten a full meal instead of just a little something. I get sick if I take vitamins on an empty stomach, but not after I eat a regular meal.

I didn't know they had non-sugar flinstones! Thanks BA! I can't take vitamins on an empty stomach either, not even with breakfast. I hold them down best about a half hour after lunch, when I'm almost finished digesting. I also do better if I split mine in half and take half with lunch, half with dinner. (I sometimes forget the second half). There are other brands of natural vitamins, shop around. My friend buys natural vitamins and she found a brand she can tolerate.

I'm extremely sensitive to vitamins!! Be sure to take them on a full stomach. I worked for a naturopathic dr and she ALWAYS told her patients to take them with their heaviest meal. It also helps the body absorb the nutrients better :)

Thank you everyone! Keep the suggestions coming! I have tried to take them at different times of day, and after meals. I think I need to look for something that I CAN split in half - because you can't do that with capsules. I also may try the Flintstones!! I think I can deal with that!!

I take "Alive" multivitamins multisupplement. It has greens, myco defense, Omega defense, fruits veggies etc.. It is a very large tablet and you are supposed to take 3 tablets a day. I normally take each one immediately before a meal to ensure it goes down smoothly. (i.e pop a pill, pop in some food immediately!) It also comes in iron free formula, but as I am anemic I talk the iron version. I dont know if its suitable for your situation but I love it. I think the idea of having chewable multivitamins is good though I dont know of any.
