My goodness. Do you realize this is my 1,357th journal entry? Guess that's cause I've been here so danged long! LOL!

I'm getting ready to turn in for the night. I'm tired. One week ago today, at my husband's bequest I started juicing with him. I has watched the documentary "fat, sick, and nearly dead" and thought, even though I had no intention of doing a juice fast for any length of time, that perhaps it would be of some health benefit to me. My husband had changed his eating and began incorporating juices into his diet a few weeks earlier. I know it has only been one week for me but it has been quite interesting thus far and so I thought I would share my experiences this week. Note, I went into this with great skepticism.

In one weeks time I've dropped nearly 5 lbs. I have not been counting calories, though I am mindful of the calories I am consuming. I've not exercised. This week I caught a cold. I felt it coming on Tuesday. Wednesday I left work early and put myself to bed with vitamin c, zinc, and chicken broth. Thursday morning I was still sneezing and utilizing my Kleenex so decided to stay home. By noon I started working at home, feeling pretty good. Not only did I complete two reports for work I did the dishes, brought in 4 loads of wood, did the laundry, loaded trash into my car, and cleaned a kitchen cabinet. Today? I found myself thinking, damn, I feel really good!

I've always believed that I need a hearty breakfast, full of protein. Yet this week, each day, I've made myself a fresh fruit juice for breakfast. This morning it was pineapple- grapefruit juice which I had between 5:30 and 6:00 this morning. At noon, I decided to eat the lunch I packed which consisted of a couple tablespoons of hummus with celery & carrot sticks, and not because I was starving. Usually I struggle to make it to 11:00 am before I eat my lunch and am famished when I get home from work. Not this week. Not one day. Of course some days I've been hungrier than others, I think that happens naturally. I've had a green juice everyday too. Throughout the day I probably drink close to 16 ounces of a green juice I make in the morning. Dinner? Sometimes I have dinner. Sometimes I've just had a vegetable or chicken broth. I've had a few nuts. But, and this is shocking because I am a nutaholic, I've been able to just eat a few, when I'm hungry!

Now I don't know if this is a fluke or if I've stumbled onto something about what my body needs that I've never given it enough of in my nearly 55 years but I'm going to continue on and find out! I thought juicing would be a major pain in the ass and I wouldn't be satisfied. Sure hasn't been the case this week. Once you develop a rhythm juicing doesn't really take that much time. I'm surprised by that.

Obviously this isn't for everyone. Few things are. We each have to find something, a way of eating, of fueling our bodies that works for us. It has been a big help for me that my husband is in this with me. If I had to juice for me and then also cook a meal or him or a family it would be much more challenging. I'm fortunate. Even before this past week my DH has been great about letting me do my own thing with eating and he more or less takes care of himself. Of course right now he is working nights while I'm on days so we only have a couple of days a week we really see each other.

Bottom line is I feel better than I have felt in a very long time. Even with being sick this week! I don't feel deprived. I haven't had a craving. Interesting. I thought some of you might be interested to see how the week has been. I will be interested to see how the weeks to come pan out.

Well, time to close this off. Tomorrow DH and I actually get to see each other in an upright, awake position. That's a good thing! Take care!
