I'm retired and 65 and have moved away from my family and friends to live in the sticks so have little or no support (except phone and e-mail. Don't regret the move but do regret the lack of chat & stuff friends and relatives. I have been overweight all my adult life. Have done every diet you can think of and hope that the south beach diet is going to be the answer to all my questions. I started off many moons ago (2 years)weighing over 370 pounds so the loss has slowed down now. My daughters both have a weight problem too. My youngest is getting married in June 2009 and there is no way I'm going to be a 'fat mother of the bride'. So come hell or starvation this diet is going to work!

You have made a great decision to try to loose weight and you have given yourself a whole year before the wedding so you don't have to do the hell or starvation thing :) Read others profiles and look at their charts, that is a huge source of encouragement for me and the people on FS are GREAT. You can do this.

Welcome! Starvation is not necessary. SBD should work just fine if you stick with the plan. I'm retiring this month so we'll have that in common! Best wishes on your journey to lose. This is a wonderful place to get all the support you will need.

Hi!, Flaxseed, LOVE your name!! I also am retired and as you might say in the sticks. I'am spending the next six months on a mountain top in northern Arizona where we hope will be cooler that the valley of the sun. I donot know anyone here, it is a very very small community and only a couple of small business's. I would like to be your Buddy as we do have a few things in common. Because I have had really good luck with the SBD maybe some of the things I did to get where I'am now might help you. When I started I ate NO prossessed food of any kind[nothing out of a package] only fresh vegetables and very little meat[red]lot of chicken and some fish[in foil],no salt. I'am a hot and cold black tea drinker{can't drink green as I have a thyroid problem] I eat jello for dessert as was only 10 calories [only thing I watched calories of] also if I was having anything that might have sugar[eat NO sugar stuff]. My husband is a diabetic so that helped both of us. If you follow SBD you should be happy with the results, I do find it is good to reread SBD information as often as you can, not only does it refresh your mind it also gives feeling of doing something RIGHT and GOOD for you.Of all the diets I have tried this seems to be the most satisfing.
