HCB's Journal, 10 November 2012

My mind is swimming around lately - focus now is the healing Achilles tendon. It is quite improved - but not quite yet ready for my return to Jillian Michaels DVDs. I seem a little unfocused on eating plan though - might just be the weather and a need for a little more sleep!

Yesterday I was trapped at a conference and then had dinner with my girlfriend. I made very good choices and avoided temptations - but when I got home to log it all, I felt discouraged: I had exceeded my fat, sodium and RDI for the day! Phhhttt.

SO, unintentionally, seems I am calorie cycling a little bit. I plan to keep today and tomorrow down low, since my challenge weigh-in is Monday.

Still grateful for:

- The people I love who love me back!
- The good health of my loved ones
- My FS Buddies who support and encourage me to continue
- "Butt-kicking" myself to a smaller size today

Some people swear by calorie cycling, hope it wowrks for you. I keep telling myself thats what I'm going to do but so far I have only hit high days, no lows.

It's been quite a while now that your foot has been bothering you. I hope it improves soon! Even if you went over your RDI and other limits, at least you were making good choices because it certainly could have been worse if you weren't. Not all victories are counted by the scale :)

I've come to see that for me my calorie count is different every day as is how much exercise I get. I once heard that your body does better when you change it up often but I think we each have to figure it out what is best for each of us. HCB you are doing great, you inspire all of us. Keep learning and figuring it out!

@Evelyn64 - yes, sore Achilles for about three weeks now. I guess I had overstretched it and it was swollen. The swelling is almost gone and it is much less sore today. I may be ready for some low impact cardio tomorrow!

i'm glad the tendon is getting better. Pain is an enemy to fitness, and I've sure had my fair share of it. I hadn't heard of calorie cycling, so I decided to look it up. I normally eat around 900 calories a day (when I avoid wine), so on some days I would add 300 or 400 to that, and some days subtract that much so it comes out the same at the end of the week, is that right? Does it actually work? It sounds gimmicky, but maybe there is some science behind it. I may think about trying it, I'm on a plateau.

You did fantastic! Not every day will be perfect. You made wise choices of what was available and any damage done will be short lived. You are going to get sick of hearing this from me but we live in the real world and will be here for the rest of our lives. We must learn strategies for the long term.

So glad your tendon is better..and it takes time for things like that to heal...I know it took awhile for my knee...I'm sure you will do fine the rest of the week on the eating..you have come a along way...:O)

HCB, the achilles tendon does take a long time to heal. Definitely stick to low impact exercise and do some walking or swimming. I know this is hard to believe... BUT... I ran for a few years. When I forced myself to run 5 miles almost every day is when the achilles tendon snapped. I felt it. It's hard NOT to run when it's in the blood and it is so frustrating. If I hadn't been pushed to sign up for the fun runs 3K and 5K, I wouldn't have kept re-injuring that same tendon. It's not worth it. Find something else to do beside Jillian's workout. She is rough. LOL! Best of luck to ya and your meal out was a nice time for you... don't beat yourself up about it. Hugs!

Oooo... sorry to hear about your tendon. I hear that's painful. But, I'm glad you're doing better! And yeah, those days when you feel like you've done so well, only to find out you haven't, those days are discouraging. Keep on trucking tho girly! You're doing good and looking great!
