Weight loss is such a "number focused" activity. Counting calories, measuring portions, getting on the scale, awareness of fat, protein, and carbohydrate grams in each portion, body measurements, minutes of cardio, stengthening, stretching, and endurance training. Phew! And there are people who say they don't need math!

When I slowed down on my pound loss per week in early October, I decided I needed a new way to measure my success duuring my weight loss. I took my measurements, as depressing as they were, and I told myself to make time this weekend to take new measurements. Even though my scale hasn't been kind to me for more than three weeks; the measurements tell a different story. Over 3 inches lost in a little over 2 weeks.

I also need to sing the praises of things that can't be measured. The knowledge that you are doing something that is actually good for you. Using a belt as a tool rather than simply as an accessory. The feeling you get when you pull those pants out of the closet that you had given up on wearing and they actually fit. Pulling clothes out of the closet to give away because they literally fall off of you. People coming up to you and encouraging your weight loss by saying that you are inspirational and then you see them eating oatmeal and yogurt instead of that breakfast burrito just like you have been.

Life is good. Taking care of yourself is good. Losing weight and improving your health is great!
