paincreatesfame's Journal, 07 January 2019

(this journal is gonna be a bit of a long read, sorry :/)

New year, new diet. I've been slacking off ever since early November and it's time I got back into the program here! For the first "week" of the new year (Tuesday, Jan 1 - Sunday, Jan 6) I ate like I normally would and tracked my calories for those days. Here's how it went:

Tuesday, Jan 1 - 1459 calories
Wednesday, Jan 2 - 1766 calories
Thursday, Jan 3 - 2440 calories
Friday, Jan 4 - 2062 calories
Saturday, Jan 5 - 685 calories
Sunday, Jan 6 - 783 calories

Total - 9195 calories
Average - 1533 calories

From this I determined 2 things:
1. I tend to eat a lot less on the weekends, which isn't a shock since I'm not doing much. By not doing much I don't get as hungry and therefore I eat less.
2. I do tend to consume generally close to my RDI (recommended daily intake) of 1500 calories but the average is skewed because of the outliers, 2440 calories on Thursday and 685 calories on Saturday.

My plan for this week is to aim for around 1500 calories a day as my RDI suggests. This shouldn't be too much of a restriction in regards to food intake, but it'll give my body a bit of a start into getting back into the flow of weight loss. I don't want to cut off all of my calories at once because, for me at least, it tends to cause only temporary weight loss which comes back in a week, often with a bit more added onto it.

I also have a starting weight to refer to for this new diet process: 127.0 pounds. I weighed myself on the 6th, the last day of my normal eating. This ensured that my weight was as close to my body's current "normal" as possible. I don't have any specific weight loss goals set for this week, but hopefully, it can be somewhere around 0.3-0.7 pounds lost. It's less than a pound a week so it should be doable, I just need to get started now instead of later.

I also got an Apple Watch for Christmas so I'm able to track my activity much easier throughout the day. I've noticed that I'm pretty good at completing my stand ring (stand and move around for at least one minute for 12 separate hours) and my move ring (walk around and burn a certain amount of calories in a day, the amount is set manually) is okay but could be better. Then there's the exercise ring. It's... pathetic, to say the least. I'm definitely gonna need to get my ass out of bed and outside, that's for sure! However, I feel like this will help motivate me to start moving around more overall and, as cliche as it is, help me have a more active lifestyle.

Overall, I feel like these goals are possible, and that this new year has started off okay so far.

Oh, and happy birthday to me. I aged another year on December 31st!
