crabby Kat's Journal, 28 August 2012

Oh what a night. About 9:30 I hear "we've got a BIG problem" downstairs (I was getting ready for bed) . I rush down in my nightgown & discover the hall carpet flooded; the rug runner had hidden it. Our townhouse has its hot water heater tucked under the stairwell, behind the refrigerator. We pulled out the fridge, remove the access wall, & find the water heater leaking badly sitting in a puddle that leaked out into the hall. We grabbed towels, shut off the water supply & power to the water heater, hooked up a hose & drained it out the door. My partner called the water heater guy's answering service while I sopped up water out of the carpet & set up a cyclone fan.

We already had a plumber coming today for a leak under the kitchen sink, to replace the faucet & remove a badly installed water filtration system and figure out what the strange noise is that happens after the downstairs toilet is flushed (now we think it may be connected to the dying water heater in some strange way).

So here I am, on way to little sleep, trying to decide between a cold shower here or one at the gym (packing hair gel, brush, lotions, etc. I might opt for a quick cold shower; would probably help clear the cobwebs from my brain. Then I'll have to move the refrigerator to get a yogurt & some milk for coffee; we have a small kitchen. I have to rinse out any dirty dishes down the soggy hall in the bathroom sink, then move the frige to be able go put them in the dishwasher.

I hope the repairs are accomplished fairly quickly today. I want to make a good dinner tonight; turkey taco casserole, fresh summer squash, tomatoes; we have lots of fresh produce begging to be eaten!

I will be able to go to the gym this morning; plumber's not coming until after noon, doubt other repair person could get here early. Oh dear, there isn't room for both of them to work at the same time....

My partner is coming home at noon so we can make sure there is plenty of room in the garage so they can remove the old water heater & bring in the new one through there. We have an exercise bike out there and store a lot of what doesn't fit in the kitchen (I love to cook & bake), the ironing board; you get the idea. Cabinets, file cabinets; semi-organized chaos, lol. Enough procrastinating; off to my cold shower. BTW, I did write in my thankfulness journal before I wrote all this. It will be a challenging but good day!

So sorry to hear about your home repair issues. That really sucks! Thank goodness it was found last night, and didn't continue to leak all night long. Good luck! Hope the repairs go relatively fast and easy. At least you will be able to go to the gym to de-stress!

Not a good way to end a night. I hope that they can fix it soon. I only like cold showers when I've been in 100+ weather.

Cold showers are reallllly c-c-c-cold! I really enjoyed my coffee this morning. I found out that the water heater repairman will be here between 4 - 7 pm, so hopefully the plumber will be here before then & work his magic before then. Poor Beau doesn't quite know what to make of all the noise & mess and late going's on last night; at least he didn't wake me up for his breakfast until nearly 6 am; that cat usually wants to eat his little can of food before 4 am.

Where I am, even the cold water is almost too hot to take showers sometimes. So, in a way, be grateful for the cold water, lol.

Finally, the new water heater is being installed! I spent a long time using my carpet shampooer trying to suck the water up out of the carpet, cleaning, moving the refrigerator, etc; a great exercise day although I wasn't sure how to record it, lol. I hope there's plenty of hot water for a loooong shower in the morning; must relax thoose overtaxed muscles so I can do well in Zumba. Food today has been whatever was quick and easy; looking forward to cooking a good meal tomorrow, washing dishes in the repaired sink, washing all the towels we used to mop things up... oh my, I'm looking forward to housework! :o)

Oh, my gosh. You too? We just had to replace our water heater three weeks ago. Hope you're appliances & TVs aren't in the same suicide club mine seem to be... next was our TV. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
