RebeccaCole's Journal, 16 August 2018

Eh, today's not a good day. Been 10 years since my mom passed (she was 36 and passed of kidney cancer - my grandmother was 56 and passed of kidney cancer as well) and after a doctors appointment where they found blood in my urine I have been stressing. Can't see the urologist until the 27th. Took care of some other concerning health matters but the big C word is sadly a possibility. They also found some bilirubin and a trace of ketones (no surprise there because I'm trying to lose weight). The bilirubin indicates something potentially wrong with my liver or it can be even caused by whatever might be going on with my kidney. Kidney stones are a possibility as well but those really don't cause bilirubin. No protein was found. Just going to have to wait and see.

We already ruled out a UTI because there was no sign of an infection on the urinalysis. I have no pain or really any other symptoms that can narrow it down. I get nauseous when I don't eat for a long period of time, but that's pretty much it.
Some conjugated bilirubin (specific unconjugated or conjugated wasn't specified - about 0.02 mg/dL) appears normally in the urine and increases only if blood levels rise. Hopefully it's nothing big and maybe it is just a kidney stone. I've only been 21 for a month, so hopefully nothing too severe.

So I gained a pound but with all the stress of that, on top of being what day it is, I think I did pretty damn well.
148.6 lb Lost so far: 25.4 lb.    Still to go: 0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.
gaining 0.6 lb a week

Hang in there. Vent to us here. I know it's tough waiting for answers. I suppose if everything shows okay, ask urologist about interstitial cystitis. It usually mimics a UTI, but tests will come back clear of UTI.

Hopefully everything will be okay! Just keep up the good work and focus on the day to day till you get your results. Medicine is so advance now. And god forbid something is up, you’ve probably caught it very early

Vikea01 thanks for the information but interstitial cystitis doesn't really cause blood in the urine. The kideny cancer survival rates has definitely improved and it helps that I'm not as overweight or obese as my mother and grandmother were - But those are observational studies and doesn't mean that it can cause cancer. People who are overweight or obese are nearly twice as likely as normal-weight people to develop renal cell cancer. The association of renal cell cancer with obesity is independent of its association with high blood pressure, a known risk factor for kidney cancer. Probably worrying for nothing, but failing to prepare is preparing to fail. I hope so too. Thanks for all the support!

Blood in the urine can also be the first sign of bladder cancer but also a really bad urinary infection. Try not to think the worst and hope for the best. Good luck.
