Little workout buddy

So an iPod shuffle is about $80. It's not really cheap, but it's also not killer. It's also a great little workout buddy. If you find your workouts are monotonous, you might want to think about it.

About a year ago my sister was embarking on her own weight loss journey, using weight watchers. She liked going to the park and walking about a mile or so, but she was starting to get kind of bored because it was the same scenery every time. I purchased an ipod shuffle for her for christmas, helped her load all her songs onto it, and showed her how to sync it. Since then, she has lost upwards of 30 pounds and feels fantastic and has purchased some new clothes which make her feel great. I'm not saying having music did this; discipline and regular hard work did it.

If you're having a hard time justifying the $80, think of it this way: Personally I used to spend about 7 bucks at fast food every time I went with my friends. This could include late at night or in the middle of the day. Knocking out about 11 or 12 of these means enough cash to buy the ipod, so that's about a month of skipping the late night Taco Bell or McDonalds runs. The same kind of thinking could work for, say, an afternoon Coke or a large order of popcorn at the movie theater.

Take home message: The iPod shuffle, the least expensive model available, is a great little companion for your walk or jog as it clips onto your clothing and is very small and unobtrusive. If you're having a hard time justifying the cost, pick something unhealthy you spend money on, cut it out, and then use the savings to buy one.

Also, I've decided to update my goal weight and knock another 10 pounds off of it. This is going to be VERY hard. I did this after much consideration of the whole BMI chart and stuff. 185 for someone about 6'0" or 6'1" is still overweight. Ugh... I have so much to lose

You are doing so great and have nothing to worry about, you will kick that next 10 lbs in the butt completely! You have such a great attitude and such a great outlook on things! Thanks for all the advice, it is great!!! Keep it up!

My ipod is also a huge part of the workout. For me, success on the elliptical stepper is all about boredom management. The ipod relieves the boredom. Additionally, I created a fast beat "workout playlist" and that causes me to work out harder on the stepper. I don't need it for weight lifting because that is so much less monotonous.
