well, bloodwork came back. My inflammation markers are high. Doc knows what the dietitian is recommending for me so she said to keep removing grains up and check back in a month or 2 and see if inflammation goes down.
FINALLY putting this 100k piece weight loss puzzle together and figuring it out.... i finally have an explanation why i cant lose- INFLAMMATION.
192.0 lb Lost so far: 25.0 lb.    Still to go: 0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.
gaining 14.0 lb a week

Wow, more grains for inflammation? Sounds weird to me and I'm a retired critical care nurse.

Did I misread? I thought she said she was reducing grains. Regardless, Morticia, there are a lot of people who argue that a vegan diet is anti-inflammatory, which does involve grains. Sensitivities and our bodies' needs are quite different. I've heard it said there's no perfect diet, but there's a perfect diet for you

My blood work indicates a very high level of inflammation when they check CRP. I try to follow an anti inflammatory diet. I don't think the inflammation makes it hard to lose weight, but losing weight helps lower the CRP levels. So does regular exercise. I know what I need to do to reduce inflammation, but don't always do it!

@Morticia and @Wyo: Dazey is referring to refined grains, like flour (her cake and bread). @Dazey: The anti inflammatory diet works, as does reducing your caloric intake to 1200-1300. Are you focused on the possibility that if you lost weight and your neck/spine and knee were no longer hurting, that you’d have to give up the pain pills?

Again, here is JB thinking they know what is best for everyone else...my heart hurts when I read your posts. Insensitive to fellow humans.

So many things can cause inflammation. The doc says cut out alcohol, eliminate sugar and process foods and last but not least cut out caffeine. I looked at him and said why live???? :(

@HCB, I agree with you 💯

Trolls have nothing else to do with their time— just ignore them, don’t respond.

almost 6 weeks ago I cut out all dairy and meat. am on a plant based diet. grains, beans, fruit, veggies, almond milk. it's boring and i feel I am earning a degree in a balancing act. however, the changes are drastic in inflammation from elimination of any dairy. there Def is a correlation.....maybe ask your doc or do some research on it, it might help you?

I have found that Turmeric has greatly lowered my joint/muscle pain. It is supposed to lower inflammation. Just be sure to take it with pepper or take a pill that includes peperine. Best wishes.

@Morticia!! my english can be weird (greek was 1st language) keep up removing grains @Writing: thank you for clarifying yes

@Fritzy i grew up eating Mediterranean being Greek and Italian. When my dad hit rock bottom with alcoholism we dove head first into a American style af eating and health was a fast track to obesity and pain. i totally understand: you knaw what to do but putting it into practice is difficult. My personal goal is to have 1-2 meals a day grain free(Mediterranean at home) and when that is comfortable ill bump it up!

@HCB yes. its tough to explain over again what i am doing and why. @Justbananas Personally i dont eat cake. My go-to sugar is usually Hersheys Symphony!! I am from ελληνικά and Italiano parents. I am full-blooded Mediterranean!! I fully grasp the so called Anti inflammatory diet more then you understand..its a slightly modified, if not the same as , a Mediterranean Diet. I will not reduce my calories to 1200-1300 because my basal metabolic rate is 1550. On top of this, i do not consume pain pills because i hardly believe in the concept that, for me personally, taking a medication will help and i have exercises to do to manage pain. You have been following my posts for a while-you know that weight loss has not been easy for me. When i do lose weight there is no guarantee that i will be pain free- 3 Discs in my spine are degenerating, and osteoarthritis is for life. There is no magic food that can turn back the hands of time after 10 hard years of combative sports.

fidelisec- oh i know!!! i told a doc this a while back regarding depression "you do your own recommendation and let me know if its worth it first" he stopped dead in his tracks. I like to take it slow to prevent anxiety and a binge (i have binge eating disorder) One little change will lead to 2 lil changes and THAT momentum is what leads to a big difference down the road!!

hockeypuc- omg i am so sorry... idk if i can cut out ALL of that. I wish i could be like a normal person when it comes to sticking to a diet but i can. i have binge eating disorder so eliminating too much at ance leads me to excessively overeat. Hence why for now im removing just breads/grains, i wanna reduce dairy too cuz i get bad acne. Studies have shown that dairy isnt too inflammatory but it totally depends on you. i was lactose intolerant as a kid so i wonder if those people have more sensitivity to dairy compared to others.

Dazey - have you considered at some point experimenting with some of the "non-grain" grains (pseudocereals) like buckwheat and amaranth? Very similar nutritionally to grains, but actually seeds. I also have family members who are sensitive to conventional wheat, but can eat einkorn, which is a heritage grain. It sounds like right now the goal is to get inflammation down, and I wouldn't want to push anything that would interfere with that, but maybe something to look at down the road. I admire you on the journey you're taking 🤗❤️

kca- yes!! i take and use in cooking tumeric all the time, especially eggs. and yes, black pepper with tumeric not only taste great but helps body metabolize it!

hockeypuc -- I like to play in the kitchen, and actually found that my plant-based diet excursions throughout life made me a more creative cook. I adore good food, frankly, and if you take some options away from me, it makes me more determined to find tasty alternatives 😉 If you've relied on animal products in the past, I can understand that when you switch, it may leave you at a loss as to what to eat. Rest assured, there are a ton of good plant-based recipes out there! Best of luck!

Writing - yes you are referring to "intact" grains. Einkorn is amazing since it hasnt been a victim of hybridization. I use Einkorn flour and has mastered pancakes, breads take much longer since it absorbs liquids lower. I have not tried any other grains. I do eat Ezekiel bread on occasion though!!

Buckwheat is amazingly tasty 😋 Love the stuff, but don't make it often enough. Let me know what you think if you try it! 😃 And glad the einkorn works for you!
