Diana 1234's Journal, 31 January 2023

Went to nutritionist yesterday. It was a good news, bad news meeting. The weight gain was probably two fold. I'm working out harder than ever.,therefore making me hungrier. I am meeting or going higher than my RDI everyday but mostly due to increased protein. My carbs are holding steady at 80-100 grams and fat is about 35-48 grams a day. Yesterday protein was over 130. She says my body needs those extra calories and I have to make a choice of being bulked up or lean. She was amazed of my muscle mass since I was there last time. Can't do BMI scale because of having a pace maker but she said I'm definitely in the teens. Nutitionist says I will probably not go under 130 if I continue to lift like I'm doing but it's a choice of what I want. She also said to start watching my sodium intake. I had bbq and smoked turkey the night before I weighed 131.6 She thinks I'm holding on to the sodium. My measurements were a bit of a surprise though. Resting biceps were 12.5. Thighs were up .25", hips same, but waist was up by almost 3/4 " I'm ok with all but waist. Before holiday I had gotten to 29". Now I'm at 31" . I was 30.25 last time. She was surprised by this, as was I! It could be sodium, it could be leftover from bad eating . She suggested I follow my food plan and measure myself next Monday and see if waist has gone down and we will reevaluate a plan at that time. The other increases in biceps and thighs are from lifting so good news there. She does not want me to carb cycle at this time because I need the fuel from carbs to maintain the workouts I'm doing. I trust her and she is so knowledgeable so again I will trust the process. She has been right every other time.

Very interesting. I think I would rather be lean than bulk up and it sounds like the most important thing for you is maintaining under 130. But you enjoy the gym and lifting so it makes sense it would be a difficult decision for you. Me, personally, I don't care about the gym. I would just like to be in good enough shape for long walks and hiking. You have alot to think about!

Fritzy,I love weightlifting and like to see the muscle gain. I also like the Len and fit look. Guess I just need to find happy medium.. Just got done doing a full body workout with my trainer. Lots of squat, shoulder presses, lunge, bicep curls, squat , deltoid raises, deadlift, hammer curls, etc Increased weight each set and did 4 sets. 💪 OBT, thanks..she is great. Just had a good lifting session with trainer and did a run on treadmill afterwards.

Thanks for sharing this information. I think I would go more towards the lean and fit mode for myself but I also want to look toned. I actually took my measurements because of what you are going thru and feel the same frustration so I am glad you posted details. My chest was up a little and so were my arms but my weight is up a little. My waist is still at 31" but because I have small hips I can wear a size 4 so I think that for me is my gauge. The sodium intake is a great tip too! You are doing great and if I am still 130# and lifting weights in 5 years that is my win! Keep sharing because you are my inspiration! Think how healthy we both are compared to some people 1/2 our age! And we can lift! Having only 130# and being able to lift what you are doing is also amazing!

Wow, good job! Those numbers might be off a bit but I wouldn't worry about it. Keep up the good work!

Redporch, I agree with you! When I stop and think about where I am at 65 versus where I was a few years ago, I'm happy with myself. But that being said, I'm trying to accomplish certain goals and I get frustrated when things don't go the way I want. Especially when I'm trying to do the right things, food wise and workout wise. My nutritionist did address the muscle weighs more than fat theory. Muscle and fat weigh the same. It's the density that is different. Like Kenna said, quarters and feathers...she doesn't feel like that is a factor in my case. She seems to think sodium is a factor and I am eating more calories ( protein) because I'm working out harder. I appreciate your comment about being an inspiration but you inspire me! Your legs are incredible and I like following you cuz we can help each other!💜💪

Unhealthydad, thank you and I like all the support I get from all of you. I learn so much from like minded people on this site!💪💜

Bulking up is going to maintain your bone density, another bonus of your heavy lifting.

Katsolo, good point! As I get older I do notice more bone aches ( hips and right elbow in particular) Thanks for reminding me!💜💪

She’s right, you really have to choose. To build or to cut. A great example of this is athleanx on YouTube. Dudes been at it for years! But he stays the same size from being too lean all the time

Supergainz, I checked out that guy on tube. You're right, he is really lean. I💪💪 watched a couple of his workouts..pretty intense.

Well he’s known to use fake weights to make him look stronger than he actually is. But look back at his videos through the years. He’s pretty much the same size.
