Katsolo's Journal, 31 January 2021

Weight up this morning, but oh, what a swim yesterday. New PR for strokes in 30 minutes and kept the whole swim super steady. Guessing that the weights are improving the evenness of my strokes between both arms. This has always been an issue for me. Also been working on legs so I know I can kick.

870 strokes (vs. about 820), average heart rate of 118, nothing higher than their fat burn zone, not even one minute, which is pretty awesome for an indicator of improving fitness from year to year. 10.7 METs, this was a nonstop swim, so wasn't doing anything except swimming and breathing. Today will be interesting because I'm not sure what I'm going to do going in. Got some stuff to do around the yard first, so might just be a purposefully gentle swim at the end of the day. Yes, just trying to keep busy.

So BF is still in hospital. Waiting for some test results to come back later today, we hope. Maybe discharged tomorrow. Hoping that's the case, but don't want him release prematurely either. We'll have to quarantine after that, although he should be getting a vaccine at some point, if he hasn't already. Will still do it because of my mom.

In the meantime, I've been getting deck envy watching the boys' project unfold. My main deck is sagging on one corner, hello, wood rot and I'm toying with the idea of tearing it down and going with landscaping instead. That would make my yard feel much bigger and possibly resolve some issues with the basement since that wall would be more accessible. Yes, probably more cinderblocks in my future, but this would need to be done in a more permanent manner than the pool deck. Projects keep me busy. Thankfully, planning projects takes almost as much time as execution and I can focus there rather than worrying for a bit.

Holding again, just like last week. Not worried after yesterday's swim and pants still fit. Found some pretty cool features got added to my stats app and have been nerding out on those a little more, too. Don't know that I would have really cared about last year's heart rate last year compared to this year, but now I do. I can filter swims from walks and check my mileage, too. 😎

Gorgeous day, kinda chilly, hoping it warms up a little before I hit the water. In the meantime, I need to pull on some crappy jeans and clean up more debris from the storms we had. Lots of it!

Really great on the PR! Hope the BF is good as new soon. When did you start swimming? Were you on the swim team in H.S.? Love reading other people's plans and accomplishments... for the deck/landscaping and life in general. :)

A very long time. I tore my Achilles in junior high playing soccer so they dumped me into the pool. Swimming, water polo and a very short flirtation with diving, which i absolutely sucked at. I was nothing special, also suddenly got boobs which didn’t help, but it has always been my quiet place mentally. Swam very little in college, and picked it up again in my twenties with people from work here in San Diego. That’s where i learned that there are a lot of ex pros here and it’s not you. Humbling, but once you realize you’ll never win, they’re great idols and mentors because everyone gets older, apparently. It’s just some do it better than others. Long mini bio you never asked for. 😝

I love that you're a swimmer. I am as well in the summer time when we open up the pool. It's total zen for me. Hands down it's one of my favorite exercises!

Great job Kat! Your heart rate is like wow! I was wondering how you weathered the storm. And I'm glad your BF might get to be released soon! You guys are doing it right with a quarantine after to protect your Mom!!! Have a great Sunday!!!

I just looked at last year's swim numbers, average heart rate then was 140's-160's (just looking at averages) without looking for the exact same workout. So that's pretty good improvement. And now, even though it's supposed to be sunny and warm and is cloudy and chilly, I'm going to drop my butt into the pool before it gets too cold.

Swimming is hard AF. Imma stick to my weights and barbell with once a week cardio. 🤪 Pretty sure I’d give up after two laps in any size pool, your stroking away 30 min. Major kudos! 💪🏻👊🏻
