Interesting news - My husband has to see the doctor every three months due to high cholesterol, high blood pressure and chronic pain. Three months ago they put him on a new high cholesterol medication, he took it for 30 days and it increased his chronic pain from a 6 to a 9, so he stopped taking it. He (of his own accord) partially adopted my WOE, stopped wheat and sugar, ate my snacks. He did not add in the fats I eat other than avocados and nuts. He has done this for two months. He is down 30 lbs. All of his Lipid Panels are in the normal range, triglycerides were at 300, now at 111. All his doctor could do was say WOW! She said she has never seen a reversal of cholesterol of that magnitude in such a short period of time WITHOUT medication. He's all smiles, says he feels like he got all A+'s on his report card.

I'm all smiles too!

Hells YEAH! My Dr recommended this WOE and he acts NOT surprised! He just says that most of his patients don't apply themselves and have no or bad responses/tests. After 4 months of this HEAVEN, I will never go back! But my kidney Dr is amazed of the turn-around! That's my purpose now, shock the hell out of people that said "you'll never do it, you'll never get better. Diabetes will now run your life". PSSSHHHHH! I'm soo glad both of you are benefitting from this plan! If we only knew some of this stuff when we were 30's!!!

Him and my mother both think my ideas about nutrition are crack-pot because they go against traditional medical advice, I reached the point where I say nothing to them about what they eat and just try to be a positive role model and let my results speak for themselves. We are making progress....Anytime I can help reduce the 10 prescriptions my hubby is on and the 35 that my Mom takes daily is a win!

Amen! Cutting those BAD carbs and sugars has lowered my BP and caused Dr Griffin to remove 2 rx's that I had been on for 20 years! Down to Lasix(BP), Allopurinol(gout) and a vitamin D pill once a week! Insulin has been cut from 25 units to 15 all in 4 months! We WILL Prevail! Tell your husband and mother to keep their chin up, mind open, traditional medical "wisdom" seems to be killing Americans! You stick to your guns, I feel you about people just don't understand. But they can live their life, you live yours BETTER! When they can't deny the truth about what is changing for you and your family, maybe they will open their eyes and minds! - SMILES for both of you -

Great news on your husband's success, just shows the effect that food choices can have with our bodies.

Synthetic drugs.....something else for your poor liver and kidneys to metabolize and excrete. Plus, some have a ton of side effects especially statins, which I am assuming your husband took. They surely aren't easy on your wallet. I say look to healthier food choices and lifestyle choices instead of pills for good health. If you have to take it then you have to take it. Your system and wallet are better off without them. 30 pounds was the culprit. Now, you have to get mom on board.

I'm not going to trash modern medicine because a lot of great things have come from it, BUT if it was perfect, they wouldn't have changed so many things recently, like going from low-fat to low-carbs, etc. Sounds like your hubby is at least open-minded enough to try what working for you, and he deserves credit for that! Maybe your mother see his success and be willing to try too, at least a little. If she can get off any of the medications, try what they say to do when you try to quit smoking -- put aside the money you save and periodically splurge with it, perhaps a new outfit or pair or shoes, whatever appeals to her! Good luck to all three of you!!

Great news Debra...the old saying "the proof is in the pudding" applies in full. Just like most anything new or others advice, unless we see it or hear it from a source we trust it isn't real (think HP exercises). Your husband has added years to his life and improved his quality of life along the way, very cool for the both of you!! Take care and hope you have a great day!!

Way to go hubby!

This is great news! I started LCHF when my husband was diagnosed type 2 to be supportive and also, to lose some pounds myself. He has not gotten on board. Unfortunately, his nutritionist follows the ADA guidelines so he happily gobbles up the carbs. So, good on your husband, and good on you for being a positive roll model.

I can just tell you are very proud of the choices your hubby is making in his life. I sure wish my husband would do this. I think sometimes when we feel bad we will believe anything the doctor tells us .... but, times are changing and the old school doctors who administer statins daily should really take a look at what is really happening to their patients. There was an article in The TImes in the UK where thousands of people changed to low carb/high fat against their doctors wishes and their numbers improved dramatically. They did their own study it seems. I didn't get to read it all because you had to subscribe to the news source.

That is VERY interesting. I hope it works like that for all of us! WTG!

Interesting news? It's brilliant news! Well done to your DH and I'm so glad he went back to his doc and told her how he'd done it. I have finally got my own DH on board with going low carb as he was recently diagnosed pre-diabetic. He refuses to weigh but I know he's lost weight because I can see it. We are still both learning how to do this but we're getting there. I'm astonished that the medical profession are still pushing low fat, high carb! But I know who are funding their research, so I shouldn't really be surprised. For those who don't know - it's the manufacturers of high carb junk (often disguised as "healthy food").
