Fritzy 22's Journal, 31 October 2021

244 days since I've recorded my weight. I just don't record my weight when I am gaining. When it's just a pound or two I tell myself that I'll post once I've lost those pounds. I keep on doing that but never lose the weight. Now it's about 10 pounds. I don't want to post a weight of 200 or more. But I'm realizing that unless I am truly accountable to myself and see the figure in writing I'll just keep on gaining. Lots of excuses - I gained a pound a week when the pandemic first hit and we had lockdowns. Ate out of the pantry instead of fresh produce since I stayed out of the grocery stores - only shopped every 3 weeks or so. I've ordered and ate more pizzas in the past year and a half than I had the prior 5 years. Once I hit 30 pounds higher I posted my weight. But it still didn't get better. So now, my plan is to post my weight tomorrow, whatever it is, and just deal with it. I'm hoping that seeing an incredibly high weight for someone barely 5 feet 4 will motivate me. Kind of like how putting a picture of me at my ideal weight on the refrigerator does not at all, but a fat picture makes me think twice about what I'm going to eat. So another 1st of the month starts tomorrow.

You don’t have to post it. Just write it down somewhere with the date.

Oh Fritzy 22, I feel your pain. I don't even remember how many times I hit that 200 mark and just said to hell with it and kept going up and up some more. This past winter, mid to late January or early February, after an acquaintance had a really bad stroke , I dusted off the old scale, got a new battery in it and was stunned to see 197. It was a nudge that helped me start moving again, via little steps, in the right direction. Sometimes it takes these types of wake up calls to get us down to business. So, post you weight tomorrow, and set a specific goal for the coming week. You have to have an actual concrete goal to work toward to get started agin, just thinking in general that you want to start does not cut it for most of us, we need something specific. Most people need a BIG reason to start this journey yet again, and we also need big and little goals to work toward. Your goal for the coming week might be sit down and write out a BIG reason for why you are ready to start again or it might be writing a reflection of what really triggers your eating or lack of inertia and list a couple of things you might want to try to get around that/those behaviors. It could be more weight specific like no weight gain for the next week, or post your intake daily or do not go over your RDI or lose 1/2 pound. If you don't know what really works for you for motivation or actual weight loss, take time to read some profiles and journal entries, reach out on FS and ASK about things you want to know more about or might like to try. People on FS have the same struggles as you and we all have to work at keeping ourselves going. It is not easy, we backslide, we get up and start again. So do more that just think about starting to try again Fritzy 22, just do it. We are here to support you. Best wishes!

I am the same way that weight loss does not actually motivate me to lose weight. It is seeing the number go up on the scale. For me psychologically I respond better to criticism of my bad habits. Today is a new start for me. No more glasses (plural) of daily wine. Also I will get back on track and prepare meals instead of just eating "stuff" that doesn't require turning on the stove, using a knife or dirtying some dishes. Hopeful that those changes for me help drop a few more lbs. All the best to you in meeting this new challenge.

I stress when I gain. It's not a couple pounds sometimes it's 5lbs over from what I was. And it's hard to get off what you gained, but it's really easy to gain it in a short amount of time

Thanks XryRn - I think I am going to post my weight daily for a couple weeks at least to keep my mind on losing. Then maybe once a week, even once a month. Katsolo - I'm going to post the date. FS keeps long records and I reviewed them last night. I am about 2 pounds higher than when I originally started logging my weight in August 2017. In 8 1/2 months I lost 54 pounds then slowing started gaining it back. Within a year I gained 40 pounds back and now I've gained it all back. I can see the yo yo when I look at the chart. I haven't really done much losing since I started gaining it back. I think I lost 20 pounds (took awhile) before the pandemic hit and then started gaining. I just need to put down the number and focus. Thanks DP - It was actually your post that got me thinking I also just have to take charge and do something. It motivated me. Now it's up to me. But we can both start on the same day! Thanks Brenda for your thoughtful post. It gave me a lot to think about. I am going to reset on FS and set small, reachable weight goals and see how it goes. The holiday season isn't really the best time to start, but if I don't start now I'll gain another 20 pounds before 2022. Crazycat - You sound exactly like me - eating "stuff" that I don't have to cook. I still hate to cook but do it more during the colder months. Thanks Morgan - when I looked at my weight history I saw several times when I would gain 15 pounds in 6 weeks. Seems like it comes on really fast when I'm not paying attention.

Fritz, we are similar in "weight & dietary methods". I'm also all or nothing. I still go through periods of high activity & healthy eating, lose steam, sit around eat poorly. Still figuring out a true lifestyle change. Shall we begin again. Baby steps to break the cycle?

Fantastic lost. I need to catch up. Lagging behind. I run a air purifier in the house now to remediate bad indoor air quality. We bring mold in the house all the time. It's in the dirt.

ACBelle - I have a Lennox air purification system because of allergies and pet hair and wildfire smoke. The filter is over $200 and I have it changed once or twice a year year the HVAC guy comes for the semi annual system review. Hopefully it catches any mold spores. But I'm not running the fan at all until the mold is dealt with. And it's getting cold outside! I'd love to turn the furnace on for an hour or two in the mornings. But I'll wait and have lots of heated throw blankets.
