Diana 1234's Journal, 21 October 2021

Please send prayers and good thoughts for my dog Sydney. Yesterday we were walking in our neighborhood and we were attacked by a husky dog and a mixed boxer dog. Their back block wall was damaged and they had a temporary mesh chain link type fencing up and the dogs easily jumped it. My dog got the worst of it. She has several pretty deep puncture wound, severe bruising on her belly and a dislocated knee. The worst puncture wound I'd on inside her back leg. They may have to put a drain in it. She is in pain and severely traumatized. I'm devastated. She had such a hard life before we got her and we've worked so hard to give her a loving and secure home life. She is so traumatized she won't go out front anymore. It's so sad ...

Oh no!! Poor baby. This has to be just as traumatizing to you. I’ll be keeping both of you in my prayers.

What a terrible thing to have happened to both of you. After some time - the trauma will pass by and you will both be able to walk outside again without fear...for now ... just take care and heal up.

Time for these dogs to be put down and the owners to be sued? Best wishes for a good recovery.

I’m so sorry, Diana. She’s a sturdy little breed, i know you’ll do everything you can to get her through this. I always carry pepper spray because of stuff like this, but you don’t expect it in your own yard.

Huge hugs. Agree with Eral, sounds like the attack was unprovoked. Just assume they should pay all the vet bills. Were the police called?, if not have a report made now and case number. Gentle kiss for your fur baby too 💕

Thank you everyone. To answer and me questions...First, Sydney is doing better today. She is vet clingy but it was super traumatic for her. We are putting medicine on her wounds and she has painkillers. I did call Animal Control and filed a report. They came out and spoke to me and I was able to show them where dogs lived. It is considered a civil case though. They gave me a form for our vet to fill out as well. My husband just came hometoday from a hunting trip so we are going to go over there later to have a conversation about what happened.

Tape recorder or a third party witness with you. Never give an option on repayment rather will you be paying the vet directly or repaying us? If they object, say I know this is a great deal to absorb, it was for us too, when would you like to get back with us about making arrangements. Thanks for the update. Again sorry you are in the uncomfortable position of even having to bring this up with them. Just remember homeowners insurance is also an ally - if they don’t have funds most policies cover dog bites.

OH my Dear! Poor Sydney - I hope she recovers and trusts you again.

I'm sorry Sydney is experiencing such trauma! I hope your state is not a 'one free bite' state. That's an old term and most states have strict liability now. Or exceptions. Hoping the negligent owners do the right thing by Sydney. Shame on them. Poor baby. Wishing her, and you too, the best.

Is it possible that the dogs managed to get out of their caged area and the owners are not aware that any thing had happened? They may be surprised that their own dogs attacked anyone. Well - That some times happens.

How are you & Sydney doing?Did you get a chance to talk to the dog owner(s)? Were they remorseful? They should cover the vet bill. It's not the dogs fault for getting loose. I wouldn't call for their dog to be put down. I would report it if the local law doesn't require the dogs to be put down or taken away from their home b/c of an attack.
