Sounds like me when it comes to portioning out my food. I try to follow a guideline and boy, that is a hard thing to do. Especially when there is someone else making your plate. I try to tell the group home staff not to give me so much.

Morgan start— are you a resident in a group home or part of the staff? If possible, you can try to ear what you feel is the most nutritious parts of what is served and leave the rest. Without being in control of food selection and cooking techniques, following portion control may be your best tool. Do the best you can. Perservere
