Wow - Lonnie that is a rarity to see!!!! Do you know that everyone knows that owls hoot, but really it is only the Great Horned Owl that actually hoots?
It is that they are everywhere so everyone is familiar with their calls.

Beautiful spring flowers! Of course my favorite is the baby owl. We were playing tennis one night and a great horned owl perched on the fence and would swoop down to catch the bugs flying near the light adjacent to our court. It did not appear to be the least concerned about our presence. Quite amazing.

Thank you, Shrewdness!! I'm so glad you liked the photos! I did not know that hoot thing. That's interesting, and it's confirmation of its ID, because she definitely hooted at me, loud and clear. For a second out of the corner of my eye I saw her zoom past me and she hooted. I had to go. I didn't wanna get attacked. Luckily, she didn't follow and our campsite was very near, so I escaped unharmed.

Thank you, Kenna. I appreciate your reminder. Last year I saw two rattlesnakes on our travels. I almost stepped on one. They scared me so bad I've become very leery of them and keep my eyes peeled. I got a few amazing pictures of those rattlers, but only after getting to a safe distance.

Lonnie— I know quite a bit about wilderness medicine. I have taken some incredible wilderness medicine classes and did wilderness search and rescue off and on for about 10 years.. we had to do swift water rescues and helicopter rescues off of a cliff. So much fun.
