Spring has definitely sprung in the desert southwest. Wildflowers are popping up everywhere. I've been enjoying extra long walks while searching for new ones. Here are some of the ones I've found.

Photo Captions:

1) I walked more than 9 miles so far today! I'm probably done until tomorrow.

2) Beavertail Cactus (Opuntia basilaris)

3) Desert Sunflower (Geraea canescens)

4) Brittlebush (Encelia farinosa)

5) Yellow Cups (Chylismia brevipes)

6) Ghost Flower (Mohavea confertiflora)

7) Broad-leaved Gilia (Aliciella latifolia)

8) Notch-leaved Phacelia (Phacelia crenulata)

9) Arizona Lupine (Lupinus arizonicus)

What magnificent pictures! Also impressive is your knowledge of the flower names. I have no clue most of the time.

I've also confused cows and goats, so you could say my knowledge about fauna and flora is close to zero.

There is actually an app to download that allows you to put the plant into focus on the camera and it will pop up with the name of the plant and all the info. I used to use it a lot but not so much anymore. Some of the terrain I hike can be treacherous and this time of year I have to be really observant for rattlesnake so have to pay attention to what I am doing.

Kenna, that app sounds great for clueless types like me.

I bet you slept good after those long walks?! Also, I luv that you listed the civilian and scientific names of those lovely bloomers. Are you a pro photographer? I can't get over the perfection of everything you have posted on here. That, my FS friend, is truly a depiction of true art at it's finest! Mother nature truly is the world's teacher of fine art. I'm not so smart, LaughingChevre. Like Kenna pointed out, I use an app (Google Lens) which works well, but sometimes I have to search the internet to identify the plants and animals I see. After looking them up, I can remember some of the common names, but not the Latin names. I have to look those up again every time. I'm not a professional photographer, Slow Meta, but THANK YOU! My photos do get quite a few compliments, and they've been used in some interesting places including The Royal Ontario Museum, Discover Magazine's website, and a gardening book. Details are on my website at lonniehuffman.com. Tons of my photos are posted on my website too. I put all my favorites in one album. Here's a link in case you'd like to see them. https://photos.app.goo.gl/TyxY2C83i6PURfKw7
