Debbie Cousins's Journal, 23 January 2020

Feeling blah today. No motivation. It's my 2nd (or 3rd) day on the half dose of one of my antidepressants, and I don't know if this is psychological, or if it is making a difference, or whether it is just a fluke. It's just been SO LONG since I've had a blah day that it feels really weird and uncomfortable. Considering going back to the full dose to see if it makes a difference. Don't want to go too far down the rabbit hole!

Maybe a personal question. Are you guided by a physician to get of these meds? I am not a professional but from personal experience many years ago, my physician guided me through the process, slowly waning me off to avoid side effects.

Yes, @silkian, my psychiatrist is overseeing the meds reduction. He did it at my suggestion, though, so it is no problem if I go back to my "regular" dose and try the reduction again at a later time, which I'm leaning toward. Glad to read this. My doctor let me do it in my pace. I remember that I was really doing baby steps! I was so scared to fall back into that dark anxiety hole. Probably caused by a combination of postpartum depression (miscarriage), work-related pressure, and a painful personal situation. I have never used it again after this period, now twenty-one years ago. You will succeed!

Hi Debbie ! Is it possible to reduce your med by a smaller fraction ? By a quarter, for example ? Or could you alternate between a full and a half dose, every other day ? Not playing psychiatrist, just offering questions you might consider with yours <3

Keep up on your walking; this will help the blahs. I've been slumping too; hang in there!

I'm with fjasmine. I was on a medicine that caused me to have leg kicks, but I still needed it. With doctor advice, I used a pill cutter to get to the much smaller dose that I take today. I take half of what I took 4 years ago, but rather than just taking half a dose it took me 6 months to get there. A pill cutter helped and I never noticed a difference. Stay strong, lady. You are so motivated to succeed. :0)

I've heard about people who had to reduce their antidepressants by the tiniest little bit at a time over a really extended period of time to take the dose down successfully. They were weighing them in micrograms or something and tracking microreductions. It seemed extreme, but maybe an immediate 50% reduction is too much of a drop for you.
