How do y'all do it?
My biggest problem with weight gain over the last few years has been stress eating. I really think that's why I have gained so much. On January 1st I decided that I was going to really and honestly try to lose weight. I stopped drinking soda and still haven't had one in the last 2 weeks, but with eating, I broke. I don't want to do keto, bust instead just cut back on portion sizes and eat healthier. I tried eating oatmeal for breakfast, but it just wasn't working. I just wonder how y'all do it without breaking, and simple meal ideas.

It’s amazing how much drinking more water will do for the body. I started drinking between 5-8 bottles of water a day and the weight started to shed. It resets your metabolism as well. Then when I took notice to the drop and my energy increased I started doing squats again. I started to change the way I ate about a month before joining this app. You would be amazed at how much better a nice pasta meal tastes with replacing the pasta with zucchini noodles. You will see we all are doing different things some keto, paleo, calorie counting etc. you will find what works for you, however increasing your water intake is across the board and it’s such an easy thing to do.

Hang in there. Emotional eating definitely makes things tough, but not impossible. I’ve been eating clean for almost 11 months now. Mostly keto, but always paleo. What helped me is having to commit to some things a 100% and just doing them no matter what. (For me it was all grains b/c of my leaky gut). But other things, I occasionally let slide, like having a little more carbs now and then. You have to remember that with emotional eating it’s not just the physical aspect. Be kind to yourself and your body. When I used to have crazy craving for cakes, I’d eat an apple or some berries. On some days, I’d even do some maple sugar in the coffee or a paleo cookie. A cheat for sure, but a cheat that I’ve pre-approved for myself in the non-emotional time. And when I’d have those little cheats, I would still feel good about the no grains part. No matter what diet plan you’re on, if you figure out your 100% commitments and your pre-approved cheats, things will go smoother during the times that you want to stuff your face with everything you see ;)

I personally am not doing it but I hope you find some answers to help you! I did have some success when I stuck to a strict calorie count and 10,000 steps per day on the fitbit.

oatmeal is boring in the old days I would add blueberries and cinnamin to liven it up, cutting carbs instead of trying keto is a good start. cut all refined sugars and flour products. eat more whole foods and meat/fish. egg omelet was always a quick start for me, you can add all kinds of meats/veggies to help fill you up. takes a couple minutes. you can buy those lower carb whole grain flat breads too for whatever you want to put in them. tuna salad, salmon etc.

I’m an emotional eater too. I’ve been using meditation a lot to cope. I have also found that when I’m on a rampage or feel like I’m going to do so - picking up a pen and writing instead opens a window into why it is I’m reaching for the food. It’s a tough place to be. You’re not certainly not a lone. Bravo re: the sodas! Cutting out stuff that make you just want to keep eating is a great solution.

There is so much out there about how to go about loosing weight. You really need to decide how you like to eat (other than the emotional eating) and then research plans that support your "style" of eating. I too am an emotional eater..I like to eat with all emotions...lol I have chosen ice chips when I just really want to eat but I'm really not even hungry. This has helped. And yes, talk about binge eating you will find my picture in the dictionary next to the definition. Small steps.. Find what works best for you.

Modern dieting is completely counter productive. When you cut back on calories and increase exercise you will overeat. And you cannot “power through” it. I found success in following the paleo/keto lifestyle. It’s about eating the foods humans are designed to eat. But it’s also about living in a way to minimize stress. When you give your body the food it was designed to eat and live in a way it was designed to live the weight will come off with little effort.

I am all for balance. I eat a balance of carbs, fat and protein and track the calories. I checked out the percentages suggested by nutritionists.I aim for carbs 45-65%, fat 20-35% and protein 10-35% and then calories that work for me. So far that works well. Pre track your food so you are aware of where you are at. Personally I love oatmeal however lately breakfast for me is stir fried grated yams and two poached eggs. Lots of salt and pepper. Very good. Lunch is a variety of vegetables either raw or stir fried depending on how I feel with a protein like the Brunswick's Seafood snacks. The tomato and basil and the golden smoked are my favorites. I use the sauce in the fish but no other dressing. Supper is more of a loose cannon.

I eat whatever I want, just counting my calories. You not necessarily have to do keto in order to lose weight, no if you don't want to.

I started drinking diet soda to save calories.

Increase your protein intake and cut back on carbs. Cut bread and pasta out all together if you can. Replace one meal with a protein shake. This is what’s working for me.

It took me a long time to start seeing results because I would stress eat and binge eat especially sweets and chocolate , I don’t know what really happened but I just woke up one day and decided I didn’t want to be ashamed of myself anymore and I’ve just been determined since . I take DHEA because I have a deficiency but it’s good for energy , also b12 and other energy supplements to help me keep energy through the day . I also cut a lot of carbs out of my diet by quitting drinking milk, staying away from grains , & when I have a chocolate craving I eat some trail mix with chocolate bits . I still eat what I want sometimes but always in moderation like once or twice a week I’ll get a latte and have a few sips to satisfy my cravings and give the rest to my husband lol, it’s worked out extremely well for me and I try to make my way into the gym about 3 days a week rn .

I think that one thing I am observing here is that many people (both keto and cico) try to cut down too much too fast and starve themselves. The problem becomes that you break and then see that as a failure and spend extra days or weeks to eat more because you are down on yourself. So the best thing may be to plan a diet that has reasonable amount of calories and with foods that you like to eat. You should not have to force yourself to eat things you do not like. So many good things out there. And ... if you break your own rules learn that this is not the end of the world. You can very easily rebound.

I realized that it's not about everyone else. I'm gonna eat healthy! whole grains fruits and veggies. I'm gonna watch my intake and concentrate on exercising. I stress eat and oh can I binge eat! but that's not me anymore! I know I'm stronger than who I have been. but I know me and if I say I can't eat something all I will want to do is eat it and I will break and eat 5 times as much as I would have if I just had a sample when I first wanted it!

emotional eating can be a double whammy: I used to attempt to treat stress by eating AND reward myself when I feel like I deserve it by eating. Is it any wonder that I shot up to 328 pounds? Regardless of what sort of diet or exercise program you start, breaking that habit is crucial -- it's your Achilles heel otherwise. Keto + one to two meals per day + exercise is what works for me. I'm 291 today and was 328 Thanksgiving. It really helps if you can find someone to help hold you accountable though -- and that is one way that FatSecret really shines. Journal constantly. Anytime you think you're about to smash a double bacon cheeseburger or a plate of mashed potatoes or a king size KitKat, imagine yourself having to enter it into your food journal here, then writing a post to justify it. That has helped me a lot. Also, my wife and I signed up for a membership and a "Couch to 5K" class at the local YMCA. Yesterday evening, I walked/ran 35 minutes. Six or seven of those minutes were one-minute runs. And let me tell you, if I didn't have the trainer making laps telling me when to run, I guarantee I wouldn't have run nearly as much.

Oh, and that first water suggestion is spot on. Can you chug? I used to drink a lot (and not water lol) so emptying a glass quickly isn't a problem for me. Having said that, I was terrible about not getting enough water. When I started this, I too my old beer mug (1 pint), and would fill it up then drain it every time I got even a little thirsty. This week I moved up to a quart jar. I often add just a splash of apple cider vinegar to that quart of water to give it a little flavor and make it easier to drink. Don't go crazy with that though, or your face will pucker so bad it'll turn inside out :P

Hi Batman, I'm the administrator of the "Daily Accountability" challenges. They are great for helping you to get in the habit of recording everything you eat and drink. That's really the biggest key to success, I think! If you are writing it down - good or bad - and know that everyone else in the group can see how you are doing, it makes a difference. Another great thing about the Challenge is that you'll get personal encouragement along the way. Our next challenge is "Daily Accountability 2019-#3," which starts on Sunday, 1/20 (in 4 days). You pick which mini-goals you want to participate in and only report on those, so it supports a variety of WOE's (way of eating). The mini Dailies are: Get in 30g or less of NET Carbs, Drink 48 or more ounces of water, If you Bite it Write it, Get in 20g Fiber, increase your exercise, get at least 60% of your calories from fat, and Read the Challenge Forum posts. That's it - and you only have to do the ones that pertain to you. We'd love to have you join us, and to have the opportunity to help you to get off to a great start on your weight loss journey!

Lean meats and lots of veggies. keep sauces and oils to a minimum. If you do that you can eat quite a large volumetic quantity of food. Spices for the most part are 0 calorie affairs given theres no sugar so use them to keep things fun. Drink lots of water. I switched from coffee to tea so i could cut out creamer. i never liked the taste of coffee anyways so it easily saved 100 - 300 calories a day in creamers.

hey for me trying to cut out a lot of food at once has never worked -- pick one or two things to change per week or else you will get overwhelmed and stress eat

When I finally decided that I needed to make a change in my life to get my weight and health under control - I committed to it. It started with portion control - serving sizes of what I liked to eat, from there it became better alternated to the foods I liked, less sugar and lower carbs. I eat what ever I like - but I weigh, measure and balance every meal so it makes sense before I eat. It was weird at first but now it is just how I do it. I found it to be the way I eat and not a "DIET" - I am in this for the long haul and if I want to survive - I will do what is necessary to do so. I added exercise to the mix and I increase the levels as I develop. I read, learn, take suggestions, I continue to learn and evolve my way of eating so that it isn't a chore or a burden I need to suffer through. This is a journey and it is a participant sport - I wish you all the best on your adventure.
