HCB's Journal, 27 July 2012

Went shopping for a couple tops to wear and was absolutely astounded at what fit me!

First I grabbed "Women's 1X" and it was embarrassingly huge, then I went and grabbed the "regular person's XL" and it also was huge!

OMG, I went back and got the "regular person's L" and it fit perfectly well now, and will still fit after I lose a few more pounds. I have lost two sizes (or more) in pants and three sizes in tops!

So, the "fat must be rearranging itself" - the scale has been slow this month but I guess I look smaller! WooHoo!

Isn't that just so freakin' great? Before you lose 40 pounds, you go shopping and grab the 1X or XL and pray "I hope this fits!" and then you hold your breath and put it on. Now it's like "Hmmm, what size do I wear now, I wonder?" It's addicting. I still have a long way to go, and I wonder what it's going to be like to stabilize and not keep working for the thrill of the smaller size. Congratulations, and keep it up, and I'm sure you are doing AWESOME and smaller sizes ROCK!

do you have access to one of those digital foot scales that show weight, body fat %, and water %? I find that i cannot the full picture with just weight changes. i'd be interested to know if you are not seeing change on the scale but have gone down in clothes sizes, if that has anything to do with your water % (i.e. water retention).

Thanks Mark13 - I do have a digital weight only scale. I know my muscles retain water after a hard work-out to repair themselves, and I drink over one gallon of water per day. I also believe in the last month I have changed my workouts to include weight work so I may have gained some muscle.

oh i wasn't aware you were doing that.. it's very possible that if you were losing fat and simultaneously gaining muscle mass, that would account for the net unchanged weight. a sure way to tell though, would be to monitor both body weight and body fat%. I do this and i created a handy excel spreadsheet that quickly calculates specifically the component of a weight gain/loss (lean mass or fat). I just joined this site. once i figure out how to add more pictures, i'll upload a screenshot of my spreadsheet so you can see an example of how useful this info is. congrats by the way on your progress!

Oh yeah, isn't it awesome shopping in the "regular" sizes! You're doing so well. I'm so happy for you. You've ptobably read journal entry of mine where I've celebrated fitting into smaller sizes from the back of my closet; its a blast! I may just go to that sidewalk sale in Lake Oswego & see what I find; sounds like new clothes are even more fun! You do know you're very inspiring, right?

Oh crabby kat - Thanks so much! I guess I do not think of myself that way at all - I am disciplined though. I seldom stray form the food plan and push myself to exercise even when I really do not want to do it. I just really do not want to give up until I am to my goal so I find inspiration in people like you !!!

Woohooo!! I think having smaller sizes fit, and look great is even more exciting, in my opinion, than watching the scale creep down. It is the forest for the trees.

Congrats! Funny how the body acts some times, I had the same thing, did not drop many lbs, but things were huge on me. Enjoy!

That's what I'm talkin about! And I bet the mirror's still showing you your progress too! It's nice to know progress has gotten to the point where you have to drop down to lower sizes!! Thank god for belts... I can drop my pants without unbuttoning and unzipping now. Guess I should do the same :D
