I set it to less than it recommends, simply because if I eat the number recommended I gain weight :) However, if you do lower it you will need to pay a lot more attention to balancing enough protein and other nutrients rather than just eating fewer calories.

I have always stuck to 1500 when dieting. I wouldn't consider going less than 1300 as that seems quite low already to me. I'd suggest calculating your BMR (if you Google BMR there are tons of sites that will calculate it for you). Once you knos your BMR, eating less than that will result in weight loss. A lot of people tend to deduct 500 from there BMR and use that figure as there daily calorie amount when dieting.

Ok. I’m not very active. I work from home. I’m have 1300 set but try to do 1200. As I think I will gain if I have more. I am good with eating breakfast lunch and dinner. Healthy meals. But just wonder as not active should be less. And I don’t want to exercise as I hate it.

Lol. How funny. BMR says I need 522 calories a day to lose 2lbs. 1022 per day to lose 1lb. No wonder I’m gaining!

if you eat too low calories then it can stop you losing weight as your body will keep the fat and energy as you're starving it. a healthy allowance is around 1500, give or take.

Thank you all for responding. It’s very interesting. So little calories needed! I wish I could actually eat less! I like my food though.

BMR says 1277 calories needed to maintain!

That seems very low on the calories. You need to eat to get lean. To little food and your hormones will plummet along with your metabolism

Results:
In order to lose 1 lbs in 1 week, you will need to consume 1029 calories per day, down from 1528 calories per day currently, or exercise more to boost your calorie burn rate by about 499 calories per day.

I’m going to try 1400 next week. See what happens. Think I will gain though.

Everyone's experience is different, so it's always best to see what works for you. I try to focus on nutrient density (e.g. 'healthy' meals) rather than calories as that's what seems to work best for me and has the added effect of filling me up at naturally lower calorie levels.
