DMark's Journal, 30 December 2007

Almost the end of 2007... I'm considering switching to the South Beach Diet in 2008. What do you guys think? It can't hurt. I got the book a couple of days ago, and the only real difference I can find is the South Beach wants you to lay off the heavy fats a little more, and it lets you have more Carbs (Good Carbs) and lets you cheat a little more. I have nothing to loose but the weight.

See you next year!
Happy New Years!!!!!

I was thinking about it to. Because you can have whole wheat pasta and bread and skim milk in phase 2. I think its a good idea.

Thanks....It's not so much about the bread and such, it just seems like it would be easier to maintain for me.

Exactly what I was thinking. I'm still unsure about it, but i'm seriously considering it.

Sounds good! Atkins seems to get you started quickly but is hard to maintain, seems a perfect switch.

Find the plan that is the best fit for you. If you absolutely have to have some sort of pasta then perhaps South Beach will be a better fit for you. Just remember that you can NEVER go back to the way you used to eat because that is what made you heavy in the first place. Pick the plan that fits best for you and make it a lifestyle and not a temporary diet. If you have that attitude success will be yours!!

Ok, you need to do the best thing for you, but with that said, please tell me what you are eating, did you read the book, any problems having bowel movements? It will probably be the same doing South Beach. How many carbs are you eating a day? You are a male, men seem to lose quicker then women. I am a women and have done very well on Atkins, not saying that South Beach is bad, but maybe you need to tweek your program. I have been around the boards maybe I could give you help?. Let me know.

Thanks everyone for the advise. I've read both books (the latest Versions) but have only tried Atkins to date. I just finished the South Beach diet book and came to the conclusion that it is basically the same approach, but Dr. Agatston just don't like all that fat. He seems to be trying to compromise for the sake of appeasing the main stream medical industry. It's not that I don't know what to eat or how to follow each plan. I have had success with Atkins in the past, and I did not experience any of the problems others have complained about. My plan is to try South Beach and see what happens, and if I don't like it I plan to fashion my on plan from both approaches. I'll let you know how it goes.

I may have been permature in my decision to switch from Atkins. I re-read the South Beach Book over the weekend and then got out my old copy of the Atkins "New" Diet Revolution and re-read some of it also. Starting today, 2 January 2008, I am offically on the Induction.
