SLLockhart's Journal, 21 August 2017

Well, my calorie count is WAY below what it is supposed to be for today.
only at 52%. Not good Sharon Lee, not good at all.
I only eat when I am hungry, and if I am not hungry, I can't eat, it does make me ill.
Hoping tomorrow is a better day, I will try harder to get more food into my stomach. This is not conducive to losing weight and I know this.

Try getting some protein shakes. You've got to get your calories up Sharon. Your metabolism is going to really slow down. Then when you do eat more, your body will store it and you'll gain. It's really important to keep your calories up to 1200 a day. Your protein intake needs to be 1 gm per kg of body weight. Good luck 👍🍀.

Can you tolerate MCT oil, or ghee? Bone broth? I put vanilla MCT oil in coffee, ghee in broth. Works when I don't feel like eating. Oh and collagen peptides in coffee. On an empty stomach , I find that bone broth and ghee works better.

OK what is MCT oil? Ghee I know, and what or how do you get the Collagen Peptides? Never heard of them, except from you here on FS. Now I am going to learn more from you.

I have to agree with your comments on my journal, all of them. Thanks for the help and advice. I do appreciate it. Now, if T8U9 answers my questions, I may even know more about how to bring them up, when I don't feel like eating more. lol

MCT oil is ultra-refined coconut oil that is high in Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs). It's basically brain food, and, of course pure fat, which staves off hunger longer than any other nutrient.

Thanks for the answer mskestrela. I had never heard of it before being on FS. Now I know what to look for, when I am buying Coconut Oil, which by the way, I do use daily. I just have never heard of MCT until today. Thanks again!!!

Thanks mskestrela! :-) @Sllockhart, my data connection has been sporadic (mostly weak to none) the last few days. Collagen powder is flavorless, I just use it as protein in coffee. I don't believe the hype about benefits beyond that. The bulk brand I use (for home) is NeoCell. The individual packets for out and about are from VitalProteins.

MCT oil feels easier to digest than pure coconut oil does. On empty stomach, the latter is slightly nauseating and sometimes heartburn inducing. Just today I "discovered" whipped butter on coffee; that has potential for fun variations.

To increase protein intake, you could add collagen to bone broth, probably getting up to 30g total per mug. (Broth 10, 2 scoops collagen 20 depending on brand.) Plus a bit of ghee or butter, and you've got a meal that doesn't require eating solid foods. It's not always appealing, though.

Thanks T8U9, some good information to research up on, and maybe even try to incorporate into me diet? I don't want to get Heartburn, been there done that, and hate the meds for it. I try to do all of my eating before 6pm to help me sleep and not have to worry about HB. Now where would a person buy Collagen T8U9?

I bought collagen peptides powder in the supplements aisle of a local hippy grocery. It's probably cheaper on-line, but I wanted advice from someone who works in that department and gets feedback from customers. Also wanted to be sure it wasn't sourced from China. If there's a Whole Foods near you, they either have this or can special order it. --- Oh, I haven't heard anyone else complain about heartburn or nausea from coconut oils; just mention that as my own experience. Very unpleasant. :-(

Chia seed pudding is another option that doesn't feel too filling, and is a very good "vehicle" for fat and protein. It has zero net carbs, and yummy texture if you like tapioca type puddings. I only just "discovered" it last week, so am not the best resource for suggestions. So far I've added vanilla flavored MCT oil ("365" brand from Whole Foods), melted cacao butter, unsweetened cacao powder (Scharffen Berger brand, zero net carbs), gelatin, and flavor extracts, not all of those at the same time. I am looking forward to experimenting more, perhaps with savory versions. --- I've also started experimenting with plain gelatin, using more than usual amounts of gelatin per unit of liquid so as to make cubes suitable for finger food. So that's another potential source of protein when you don't feel like eating much, and possibly for MCT oil. So far I've only made unsweetened coffee flavor, but that's an acquired taste. --- I hate all this complicated experimentation, and hope to figure out simple formulas very soon.

(Sorry to spam your thread with product recommendations. Just my experience so far. Maintaining good metabolism is so important, perhaps I got a bit over-concerned about you.)

THANK YOU T8U9!!! I do not consider it spam when I asked for information. I will check those recommendations out. We don't have a Whole Foods store in WV that I know of, we are hillbillies after all. We grow our own, whatever, or so the world thinks. Anyway Thanks for the great info. I do appreciate all the help I can get. I am really just learning about this WOE and it somedays seems to be all Greek to me. lol Sharon
