To all my friends here at FS. Well, the storm is over. Thank you so very much for your amazing support. I got so many responses from everyone. I never know that I had so many caring friends were here. I am so pleased.

I had a long follow-up doctor apt. this morning and we decided that I am not going to start taking pills, which makes me very happy. I will always be classified as a diabetic. I will get a blood monitor and start monitoring my sugar. I will continue on the same South Beach Diet. And go for another blood test in four months. I had no symptoms that I was aware of. My A1C witch was found in a regular yearly blood test) was 6% (which puts me in the diabetic range, but I consider that just over the diabetic line. Doctor was impressed with my diet and exercise schedule, and said I should not change anything that I am doing. I asked if I should limit my fruit intake since fruit has a lot of sugar, she replied that I could have all the fruit I want since it is considered good carbs, but watch the glycemic index content, choose low glycemic fruit. “Don’t eat it all in one sitting, Iike for breakfast, but space the fruit throughout the day.

I have been doing a lot of research on the net, thanks to a lot of web sites that my friends at FS told me about. Thanks so much everyone! I truly appreciate your support.

I am sooo very glad that you are holding off on the meds. 6% is not that much. My AC1 was 6.3... I think and the second opinion is that I am NOT diabetic, but DO have insulin intolerances. With diet and exercise I will be able to keep it controlled, and hopefully not have to go to pills either. I do wish that you would consider a second opinion. There are newer thoughts that you can avoid the processed carbs and be able to get your levels to normalize. Continue with your hard work, you are doing great! I will end with doctors are people too, they, like us have different opinions and there is not a hard fast line as to what is "this" or "that"... and I have found that this INCLUDES diabetes, unfortunately. I just would hate to see you settle for a diagnosis that may not be the case in another providers eyes. I'll be thinking about you!! Take care and feel free to ask any questions. :) Good Luck!

Gug!! yippppeeeee!! I like your doctor's advice. Nothing is too extreme, and it seems she thinks you can keep a lid on it with lifestyle choices you are already making. Thanks for sharing all that with us and keep us updated! Be proud of yourself because your healthy ways has kept an ugly disease at bay!!

Gug - that is great news! On the flip side - you are also educating all of us on the importance of regular check ups to discover undetected health concerns before they become a real problem. The people here at FS are amazing and I am in awe of the show of support when one of us has a problem.

Well you have only been on this diet since October and sugar is poison anyway - too bad it is in almost everything. Just a comment - I hear from Dr. Oz - you might not want to take fiber with your vitamins in the morning.
