kmartdollie's Journal, 20 January 2012

I have been away so long. I was down 20 pounds in November of 2010, and then a death in the family and my pet was deathly ill, and by the time I got through Thanksgiving, I just said f*ck it. I ate my way through the holidays thinking I'd get back on track and I just never did. I gained those 20 pounds back in a little over a year. Here I am again. I have been on a diet constantly since the age of 12. I will be 40 this year. I don't know how I can make it stick. I don't know how I can say that this time will be different. I just know I have to do something. I have to be accountable to myself. I'm having a terrible time with night eating, which is a real problem since I work second shift. I think instead of struggling against it, I am going to make sure I have a healthy snack budgeted within my calories for the day so I can eat something when I get home and not end up with my nose in the refrigerator at 3 am. I have just only now started going back to the gym, and so far these two weeks all I have done is walk on the track for 2 miles. It takes me 45 minutes and the seniors and older people walk faster than I do. Still, it is something. And I have been getting up earlier in the morning to go work out. This weekend I am going to make it my goal to add 20 minutes on the elliptical to my walking and see if that makes a difference. It's so hard to think long term. It takes me FOREVER to lose 5 pounds and I've got 90 pounds I'd like to lose. I am motivated at this point in time so we'll see how it goes.

I can relate to your journal. When I started walking 6 months ago, I was amazed at how many people of all ages passed me up. I would feel like such a failure when seniors passed me that I was tempted to not go. However, I have since learned that this is something we all have to do at our own pace and believe it or not as the pounds come off the walking gets faster and really feels right. You will improve at your own pace, which is what is good about it. So while you are doing your work out, you hold your head HIGH because you are making a difference. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it...the track would be full, but it's not...Also, remember good choices results in good results. We can do this...I may be slow but I am persistent
