discernaoftruth's Journal, 30 October 2007

The one thing that is really intriguing me about myself is how I am recording everything that I eat. I really do believe that I can be successful at this because at once, I was not as successful. Using the "Points Tracker" is really forceing me to SEE my eating habits and now I can have a plan of attack. This is very interesting. So now I will use these journals to record my feelings to see patterns and how I can combat them!

Yesterday, it was evident that the teens in my youth group had some discord and I sought to seek to problem of the discord and a resolution. Yesterday was full a drama from the teens to their equally dramatic parents. Therefore, today I was thinking and praying about that all day long. Some decisions I made was good, others were not too good, but I noticed that I was doing more munching as I was thinking about the kids and what needs to be done and tactics that we should do and tactics we have done that were successful. So when I think, I need to chew some gum!

You are so smart. To think about why you're feeling uncharacteristically hungry or prone to snacking is exactly the key to stopping it. I realized after a couple weeks with my in-laws in town that is exactly what I was doing. Once I realized that, it helped me control it instead of just wondering why I was "mysteriously" feeling hungry. Instead, I told my sister-in-law that I needed a little down time from the time together with my husband's family. This really seemed to help. Sounds like you have a bit tougher challenge in that you're getting mentally invested in your job. I'm at home right now but I ALWAYS completely internalized my job and went through the whole range of emotions in every work day, it seemed. I have 2 ideas that might help. Compartmentalize -- in that, you're only "permitted" to think about the kids when you're working out. Or, get a candle and burn it for a little while each evening and that is the only time you worry about other people. The rest of your time (and mind) during the day is your own. Easier said than done, but those area couple ideas.
