LadyinDenim's Journal, 19 November 2016

Decided to log a daily weight and food diary. Have been doing all the worst stuff: gas station food, hiding empty wrappers and cartons, swearing every day that TOMORROW I'll fast.

The thought entered my head yesterday: "Why not start back with fatsecret? It was working."

Good thought.

Welcome back! Fasting I think is bad for some of us, though. when we don't eat all day then take in calories our bodies are sometimes tricked into activating it's starvation mode, so when you skip meals your body may think it's starting to starve and will start storing more fat when you eat.

Katsyk, as long as your are eating at the appropriate deficit, that won't happen. After all, if that were true, anorexics would be obese. Remember, ultimately weight loss/maintenance/gain is about calories in v calories out, regardless of macros or meal timing. So called "starvation mode" does not occur in one day, anyway.

Hunter, the break was refreshing, but I'm glad to be back in the frame of mind where I can lose weight again. Katsyk, studies show fasting does not suppress the metabolic rate, in fact, it INCREASES it. Also, fasting conserves muscle compared to calorie restriction diets. I love how I feel when I fast, too.

20 Nov 16 by member: LadyinDenim Feel free to research it. Over time yes, you 'll lose weight but initially this causes weight gain,It is also used in the military to help under weight men/women to gain weight. Fasting causes your blood sugar and other parts of your Homeostasis processes to drop so the body tries to compensate bu storing more energy from the food you eat, which we all know if it's not burned off it becomes fat. for those of us ho have a LOT more weight to lose it works pretty well, but if you don't have that much and are in a healthy weight your body won't take as well to fasting. ITs not something you should do often because your weight loss may not be adipose tissue, but brain and muscle instead. so if your weight is low you'll gain because your body will store more, versus if you are overweight, your body will gladly shed the pounds because it h has plenty of access. anorexia is a condition that lasts over months and gradually gets worse it's not a few days or weeks which is why they lose so much weight.

Hi LadyinDenim! Today is my first day back after slacking off myself. I avoided the gas station, instead opting for the kids' halloween candy and lots and lots of pizza. You are right, it is about getting into the right frame of mind. It took me a while to collect myself and get my head on right, but, you know what? I am sure we can do this! Welcome back!

can you try eating intuitively? Eat only when hungry and what you really want and stop when you are full? I know a lot of folks cannot, the do or diet syndrome....all or nothing, the damn merry go round and roller coaster...I know, i have been on all the rides for so many years and still struggle, but not nearly as much. I wish you peace and good health.

Day One of Three days fasting is in the bag. I had one day of LCHF low calorie and the next day, all I could see when I looked in the mirror was my sagging, wrinkly neck. The next day was good until the pumpkin bars, and I went on to a high calorie dinner and a snack I didn't log. I had to break free from my obsession and today, I feel good. I am trusting "The Obesity Code" and trusting that by fasting, my body will eventually recycle the proteins in my skin and I will come out the other side thinner and firmer. Thank you for the support and encouragement. Simply posting my intention helped my self discipline.
