Kppgreen's Journal, 26 May 2016

So I blame this on the bacon I ate for dinner last night. I was making dishes for a potluck at work (deviled eggs & green bean casserole) and there was some leftover bacon from the recipes. I decided it would be my dinner. I'm pretty sure the huge amount of sodium held onto water and I am seeing the effects this morning. I actually laughed when I read the scale, looks like a day you just wanna go back to bed. Oh well, MCT coffee this morning and water until dinner (potluck at work).

The potluck is 'fish fry' themed. I thought it would be best to bring a couple of things I can actually eat. Everything else will be battered and fried or loaded with sugar. I even had a coworker tell me it is rude to not eat what other people bring but I refuse to sacrifice myself for the sake of being polite. :)

Here's some FACTS on the Nitrate and Nitrate MYTH. Your body produces more nitrites than you can get from food. Saliva Nitrites alone account for 70-90% of our total nitrite exposure. Veggies are the primary Nitrite source of food nitrites that we eat, 93%!!. One serving of Arugula, two servings of butter lettuce and four servings of celery or beets have more nitrites than 467 hot dogs, and saliva has more than all of them. Cured meats are not a harmful source of nitrites as USDA limits are at 120 parts per million in hot dogs and bacon, then during curing it forms nitric oxide leaving only 10 parts per million. Lastly...neither Nitrites nor Nitrates accumulate in the body, being excreted within 5hrs. If you want to read the source of this information (basically copied it and paraphrased it). @jimmiepop...same, I only cook with a little Salt, then add Salt and Butter to almost everything, as well as Amino's and Electrolytes....crampin' ain't no fun.

@HBC..........I approve! That sounds ok.

Yeah salt will do that to ya. Thankfully it's a temporary effect that will go away in a couple days if you do things right. Also, now I want deviled eggs. . .

Fish fry theme is good! Just take all the batter off the fish and watch your co-workers balk at you, then kindly tell them you're gluten intolerant!!

TiredofBeingSick: what do you mean by 'do things right'? I figured I would drink plenty of water today (although my average water intake is about 4L) and help flush it out of my system. That works, right?

You can do it! The salt will do that but you can bounce back! We made some beer-battered fish the other day with almond flour, baked it.....super good. Had it with some garlic dill broccoli slaw and a coconut flour Cheddar Bay biscuit.....just awesome! If you need a recipe............I have posted 65.....none have been approved yet.......

@MJ yepper. Learned that the HARD way. Followed some advice to drink a ton of water and then couldn't figure out why I felt like I was DEhydrated....

haha, I must be one rude biotch! I've turned down more food than you can imagine! A simple thank you and I move on down the line. Especially a potluck. I mean really? Can you even eat everything everyone brings?

Well mahjohn -- some of us just can't eat nitrates/nitrites. Last time I splurged and let myself eat homemade corned beef hash, I was up all night shaking, peeing with pain, it was horrible. I only eat no nitrate added foods because otherwise I get sick.

Bacon shall remain blameless! Just saying.

AGREE with North. Bacon shall remain blameless. It HAS to be something else. O_o "This is not the bacon you are looking for. Move along."

Are we deciding to blame the water that is held in the body by the sodium that made it to my face through bacon? Or do we blame the pig for being so damn tasty? :)
26 May 16 by member: Kppgreen
I blame the water. Because the Salt helped make the pig tasti-ER. lol Anything but the bacon did it. lol

I back North as well! I always have cooked and raw bacon on hand.. I mean come on its bacon!

I cant even blame the water either. If I was water, I would hang out with Bacon too. Lol

My favorite video: Butter Makes Your Pants Fall Off! Watch it and see just how wrong you are about the bacon! https://youtu.be/h6aMN6NLOTQ?list=PLkQCEsFtjG1dy7v0njH8tjTTTHOSOem-i

@Kppgreen Generally avoiding too much salt in the following days and not overdoing it on water. I've actually found that natural cranberry juice helps me when I'm bloated on water. It's a bit bitter for some people but I happen to like it and it helps in more than one way sooo, yeah. Granted, "doing things right" can vary from person to person since everyone's bodies have their own quirks so I can only speak on what helps me when I'm having water retention issues.

So if you had a food allergy and didn't know how food was prepared and could it potentially kill you - would it be rude to not eat??
