Happy Saturday FS Friends
Last of the houseguests has left. A bit of a nailbiter of a day yesterday. We drove him to the bus station where he operated the self serve ticket machine and got his return home ticket himself. I had prepared a set of instructions of where to go and what bus/train to catch. He was scared witless about doing this trip. Bus, to train, then another bus.
I had purchased an Airtag to be able to track his location (with his and his guardians permission of course). The tag would better enable us to intervene should things not work out. So we (his dad and I) spent the next 3 hours quite on edge monitoring each transition and on standby. Success! He made it to his group home. He was tired (as were we). It doesn't sound like a big deal for most folk, but for that 39yo who has been living in one institutional setting or another for the past 20 years, it was a very very big deal. I find it sad that he has been sucked dry of all self confidence. I've extended the invitation for a return visit in the months to come, with the caveat that he make the journey on his own (I drove him here earlier this week). I think it is only in the doing of something that a person will be able to grow and gain confidence.
Kind of like this lifestyle change for me. Only by doing it, day in, day out will I become the healthier person I want to be going forward.
