MichelleDN57's Journal, 25 March 2023

On Monday I began intermittent fasting 8:16. I don’t know if that’s the reason for my weight loss this week but holy cats it’s falling off fast right now. Since Monday, I have dropped 5.2 pounds. I’m 100% okay in my knowledge that this will slow down next week but I am really excited to think that I might FINALLY have found something that works for my body. 1200-1300 calories in over an 8 hour time frame. I eat most vegetarian. 5’8”…should be back in the 150’s next week. I am feeling like I might actually be able to get back to my goal weight of 140.

great to hear it’s working for you! i did intermittent fasting like that when i was first starting out (i’ve lost abt 40 pounds in 11 months ish)—i wasn’t weighing myself regularly at the beginning so don’t have metrics, but saw results as well, i think because it helped me better detect hunger cues and figure out when i’m hungry and not! i added on keto for a bit, and then have just been eating in a calorie deficit, and i think making those dietary changes was easier when i had a better hold of if/when i was actually hungry. best of luck as you continue with your journey!

ooh, something to watch out for—if you menstruate, i found a few weeks in around my ovulation cycle, i felt nauseous/not hungry/etc., i think because i was burning more calories, but that took me awhile to figure out! was able to adapt by eating a big more protein and it helped, but menstruation is something to keep in mind if you start feeling crummy!

Thanks for your thoughts. And, thank you for sharing some of your journey. I am hopeful that this will finally be a solution for me! Good luck with your continued success as well!!

Congratulations on the progress! Having been through all sorts of protocols, struggles, ups and downs throughout my own experience, here’s something to consider… 1200 calories is about the minimum most people can consistently consume and still meet all macro and micronutrient targets in order to remain healthy long term. -If/when progress stalls, how will you address it if you are already at the basement in terms of calorie consumption levels? -Is this a calorie target that you can see yourself being consistent with for the next 5, 10, 20 years? Just some “food for thought” as these endeavours tend to be more about the journey than the destination. Once again, congrats on the current success! Celebrate the wins! But don’t punish yourself for any setbacks or delays. They too are a normal part of the ride. 🤠

I have been on a nutritional journey for the last decade and a half. I was vegan for 10 years. Although I believe in healthy eating, the vegan diet caused a fair bit of gas…yup, had to change that! Then, I slowly added chicken and fish and continued to explore calories in versus out. When I was training for a half marathon, I definitely ate more. But, knee surgery has meant shifting calories in. At 52, I have determined, after years of experimenting, that I can eat a max of 1400 calories per day or I put on weight. The intermittent fasting seems to be triggering a change for me finally. St

Stomach monkey, your comment about “what next” is a great thought. For now, I’m going to ride this wave. Next steps can be determined later. I’m totally fine eating only 1200-1300 calories per day. My metabolism was slow in my 40’s, it’s slower in my 50’s. I will combat later with even more exercise I suppose! Thank you all for your ideas.

No worries. I see many people so focused on a specific goal, they get tunnel vision. Anyway, glad to hear things are going well for you. 🤠
