Diana 1234's Journal, 29 January 2023

Crap! Scale is going the wrong way! I've been working out like crazy, even added an afternoon walk to the mix. Yesterday I was starving all day( I did a weightlifting boot camp in the morning) and so instead of eating sugary stuff I ate more protein than usual. I did have pulled pork last night but no bbq sauce. I went over RDI but I wasn't to concerned cuz it was mostly due to protein consumption. ( ended up eating about 146 grams protein) Tomorrow is appt with nutritionist. Let's see what measurements are...ugh...I'm frustrated!! ☹️🤐

DP and Otb, thanks for advice! I hate being a slave to the scale but here I am... That s why I like being 128-130. I feel like I have a cushion. I know I should ease up on the small stuff but I have worked so hard to get here and it scares me to think I might go back to where I was. I know it's my head playing games but today was one day I lost it. Thanks for bringing me back. Nothing I can do but deal with it.💜💜💜🤐

Sorry Diana; I hope things go well for you with the nutritionist.

Diana I understand your frustration and following you because I am struggling too. I just have not posted my weight because I can’t get it to budge. I get what everyone is saying about muscle weighing more than fat but I am like you and don’t buy that. But maybe some of the lifters can explain that better. Do you measure your arms flexing? Need some advice from golfmarina!

Redporch, I feel like we are are similar paths, as we've talked about before. I do understand what people are saying that muscle weighs more than fat etc but I also feel as I get older I cannot rebound as fast and for me that's frustrating! I know that my holiday eating contributed to this situation but before I'd adjust and move on. This time feels different. I'm eating right, working out as much or more than before, and even included dreaded cardio..and still I can't get back. Even carb fasting which has always helped me drop a couple of pounds isn't working. I'm scared that turning 65 is the point where everything goes downhill..🤐

Redporchlady. — if I gave you a POUND of quarters and a pound of feathers. Would those two things, each weighing a pound, fit in the same container. No feathers weigh almost nothing and a pound would probably fit in a pillow case. What about if I offered you a cup full of quarters and a cup stuffed full of feathers— put a cup in each hand. Which would weigh more.

Literally muscle weighs more than fat. At one point in my life I have been 120 and fit, and at another 120 and flabby. The difference was felt in how my clothes fit and how my body felt as I move. The scale is useful a a guideline only, not as something precise. Don't starve yourself or your body may go into Starvation Mode and hang on to the lbs. Eat extra protein first as it satisfies but also you need it for repair and maintenance. Often a hunger is for protein but we grab a carb instead which is not satisfying so we eat more. So go for the protein first with some veges to balance (not including the starchy ones:potatoes, rice, pastas, bread etc.). A small amount of fat is also satisfying and necessary for body function, so sometimes I'll have a Lindor chocolate to finish (kept in the freezer.) or today i had a " breakfast brownie": oatmeal, cocoa, coconut milk, maple syrup, nuts, B.powder. And remember , you just need to trim 100 cal off each day to lose a lb a week (roughly). SO the tbsp of butter I had on my tea biscuit was a mistake, I could have dunked it in the chili instead to save 100 cal. Sigh.... Live and Learn; that's what I find I like about this site is that i can see where i need to tweak things.

Kenna, I'll take the cup full of quarters, I can use the money for some plastic surgery I apparently need ..😂😂 Seriously though, it's a good analogy. I never thought of it like that.

Diana- That comment was fucking ridiculous. Just ignore it if you can. Fill out the batwings. OMG. I can't even. Glad you can laugh about it.

It must be very different to be a female lifter. For men, it’s super simple, if you’re a lifter. You see more size, You see more definition, you see the scale go up then it’s a positive thing 🤷🏾‍♂️

But Diana! 65 you said????!!!??? I hope to be as muscular as you at 65! And still lifting. Impressive

I would take the quarters too! I could use it to try some cold sculpting on my waist! I have a goal to have a 30" waist and the trainer has said I need to lose more weight so at the moment it has nothing to do with my muscles weighing more than my fat! LOL But I love lifting and that he makes me progressively lift more! All I know is that I never thought I would be a size 4 after menopause and appreciate that I have my health to strength train. You will get there and anxious to see what your nutritionist says!

Weight can fluctuate greatly due to carbs. Mostly that is due to fluctuations in water weight if you just got off or into ketosis or because you switched to much higher or much lower sodium intake.

Diana and redporchlady I think we would all be lucky to have either one of your dedication and focus on your health , and fitness your both an inspiration to many on here. but for real Diana I wouldn't worry to much about the scale especially if you know your doing everything you should be. I was listening to one of my favorite YouTube channels / podcasts and they were telling someone at a similar stage as you they should take the batteries out of their scale it's doing more harm then good mentally. of course that's not easy to do I know that from my own experiences lol

Supergainz, I was just thinking the same thing earlier. Weight is so different for men and women. And I'll take that compliment. Thank you!💜💜👍👍💪💪

I get your frustration! It sucks when you're working hard & the scale doesn't reflect it. It might be a temporary fluctuation, so try weighing yourself tomorrow. 🤞

Davidsprincess and Ceesegobbler, I've dealt with it before..showed husband and he responded," why would you have to ask me? Your body, your decision but what bat wings.? " 💜💜💜💜

Otb, thank you! My nutritionist will say same. She would prefer if I weighed only once a month but she has gotten me to weigh twice a week...( sometimes I cheat .) I will have to weigh tomorrow when I see her so let's see what happens.👍💪. Hazel, yes! It really is like what you said. I work really hard but I see from most comments that I need to look at what is working, instead of what's not. Thank you for your support!💜👍
