flaxseed's Journal, 28 July 2009

My new computer was delivered this morning and it has taken me all day to set it all up. My head aches from thinking ad working things out. Eating has been a bit scrappy as I didn't want to stop until I'd got it finished. I'm beginning to think both OH and I have got a couple of screws missing. He bought a new cordless drill/driver. When he came to charge it up the charger was faulty so he had to return it to the shop next day. The assistant said go and get another one which he did and came home - only to discover he had picked up a corded hammer drill by mistake. Back to the shop next day to change it again (24 miles each way each time) My faux pas was that I had the new computer up and running and was waiting for it to install a programme when the screen went blank. I pressed buttons and read manuals but nothing solved it. Finally rang technical help only to discover I had pulled the plug out by mistake. Ever felt an idiot! We're putting it down to a senior moment.

Keeping my eating under control has been easy today - mind occupied not hands feeding me. Think it proves the point that keeping busy is good for your diet.

ps. this computer doesn't spell any better than the last one.

Have a happy day

LOL! Though the level of complexity of these beasts is really mind boggling, sometimes it's the most obvious, and easiest to overlook things that trip us up. Anyway, I hope you are enjoying your new computer, it's always a big deal to get one.

You had me laughing this morning as I read your entry!! I have done so many things like you described!! Although new computers can be time consuming it is much fun to have a faster machine! I'm checking your chart ... looks like about 8 lbs to go to get back down to pre-wedding numbers. Let's say you and I focus separately/together on getting back to our pre-vacation levels ... now that I have joined you in a spike!! I visited a church in Oregon that was founded in the late 1800's by Scots ... it was a trip reading the headstones in the graveyard. It is touted to be the oldest church with still an active congregation in the Western United States. My maiden name is Young ... there were some "Youngs" buried there who were original settlers. I didn't think Young was a Scottish name ... guess I was wrong!!

Young is definitely a Scottish name - first recorded in the 1300s. The majority of Youngs were centred around the borders and just above Edinbugh.

So I guess with Young on my dad's side and Cameron my mother's maiden name I might have some claim to Scottish blood??? Thanks for letting me know!!

I so admire you for setting up your own computer. I am so proud of you for taking that on. That is not something I would even consider doing, I am not at all technical. Isn't it interesting how the busier we are the less we feel like eating. Good job on both fronts. :-)

flaxseed: What a great commentary! Computers are great when they are working but need a geek or guru when something goes wrong. Most of us post 30s++++ lack the inborn computer genius of the younger generation. Just to make you feel better here is what I did today. I went out from work to my car to get items I had left behind. I took with me paperwork I planned to deliver on my way back into my office. I got the item I was looking for and walked back into my office without the paperwork. Next, back to the car and then I went into my office with it in my hand without delivering it. At least I got exercise! You are doing so well and are a constant inspiration with your outlook and humor! Take care! caroldiff
