I remember Queen Elizabeth's coronation. I was 10 years old, and we had not had a TV very long. Reception was not too clear, and it was all in black and white, but we were entranced none-the-less. My dad would go outside with a big pipe wrench to turn the antenna, depending on which channel we wanted to watch, while we would shout, "A little more" or "There, there." A remote was whichever child was closest to the TV at the moment, and there were only three channels, all of which went off the air sometime between eleven and midnight. Probably came on again around 6:00 a.m.

I don’t actually remember much of the coronation because I was 4, and we didn’t have a TV but the owner of the TV store (?) put one in the window display, and there was a huge crowd that came to watch from the street.. these were not big screen TVs huh Shirfleur? But they were small screens in giant console boxes— and black and whit picture.. I wonder if younger people can even grasp how fast forward we have come in one generation

I doubt that it was the actual coronation considering the time difference, could have been the NEWSREEL!

You're right, though some was shown live by bouncing the signal off the ionosphere. Films were flown over to Canada by RAF Jets, then flown down to New York for transmission.

Though it wasn't Newsreels, but rather, a TV program. I don't remember Newsreels on TV, I remember them at the movie theaters.

The whole idea of the transmission of a picture was mindblowing.

I was about 9 when we got that Moterola Tv in 1957. First TV on our street. that was the beginning of TV addiction. Love TV. Now it's Ruko . My grandson love TV and one in each room. But reading a book is more exciting plus all the time on internet. This is not the day of our ancestors. If they could see use now, it would scare them to plus they would give use the word get to work, don't waste your time, it's the same lecture I give my self. Get up and move, do your exercise, get your chores done, then you can lose that weight. keep your eye on your goal. TV exercise. It's day.
