I joined this group almost 3 1/2 years ago and I have learned many things about myself. And this is what I know: when I eat 1600 or fewer calories a day, I lose weight. It doesn't matter what I eat, it doesn't matter what time I eat it, it doesn't matter whether I exercise or not, it doesn't matter how much water I drink, it doesn't matter how much sleep I get. For me, a 79-year-old, inactive woman, this is what works. Yes, there are days when I show a gain, but if I stay on the path, the loss will come, every time.

Diana, it varies from week to week but it's generally 25-30% protein, 35-40% carbs and 30-35% fats. I have limitations in what type of exercise I can do, but I swim when I can.

Debbie, I lost about 95 pounds. When Covid struck, I gained back about 20 pounds, but that's where I put the brakes on. I've maintained a 70-75 pound loss for two years, and I've learned a great deal about maintenance during that time. Now I'm ready to start losing again and finally reach my goal. And then I plan to be in maintenance for the rest of my life. I hope you can do the same.

Good for you! I'm 73yrs with some physical limitations so use a walker and wheelchair. I'm trying to get into a regime of stretch yoga, strength bands and light weights.

Well BBB, I guess that makes us neighbors. I remember we used to play football against DeRidder when I was in high school.

I eat 1600 calories a day and only exercise was walking the dogs twice a day. I lost over 100lbs. Upped my calorie intake to 1800 and lost but very slowly. Upped it again to 1900 and I maintain. I also eat whatever I fancy as long as I keep to my limit.

Absolutely the same with me at 65 years old. Keeping the calories down is what works and at 1600 calories a day I can lose weight. I exercise a lot, but that doesn’t seem to make as much of a difference as keeping my calories down to 1600 a day. Although exercise does firm up those muscles and it’s good for the heart and brain.
