wholefoodnut's Journal, 10 January 2015

The sun is shining!! The weather people are warning us about gray skies for several days ahead but promising warmer weather. Warmer is good.

I have bought way too many oranges. Need to do something with them this weekend.

Liking my new venture into drinking more tea again, and splurging a bit on specialty herbal bulk ones. Will toss my dusty tea strainers in the dishwasher this weekend, I washed one tea ball the other day. I have lots of choices in tea bags, a plastic shoe box full in my desk drawer at work. I make pitchers full of fresh mint and lemon balm iced tea in the summer and this African tea I get from an ethnic store. I need to cut down on caffeine, and no beer or wine.

Had a good dinner of a large baked Portobello cap smeared with butter, neufchatel cheese with some spicy mole sauce, added cooked red rice to the pan and some vegetable stock. Strips of fresh green pepper on the side. So filling I couldn't eat the second one I cooked.

Weight is staying the same, exercise is still eluding me. I need to push myself, it makes me feel so much better both mentally and physically.

Need to get out from under these blankets and get my day rolling.

Have a wonderful day! Your dinner sounds sooooo very delicious - it had me salivating!

I agree! Your dinner was so yummy! I have never walked into an asian market. There was one where I used to live. I need to expand my horizons. LOL! I am going beer and wine free, too, on this 28 diet I am doing. I missed it at first but I bought some Stevia black cherry soda in case I feel the urge for wine. It seems to fill in the gap.

Portabellas rock! If you don't mind my asking where do you get the bulk specialty teas? I am a tea nut but dont have any places locally so I can only indulge in what I find on Amazon.....

I've been a mushroom addict since I was a kid, even when they were only available in cans. My best friend and I used to make our mom's mad using every can in the house just cooking them in butter. The green grocer next to the tea store had mushrooms for a good price, that meant big Bella's for dinner. Easy and yummy. Here in Kansas City there is an old city market square that has been revitalized over the past few years. There are a couple produce markets and restaurants that have been there for many years. There is a store (Lollicup) that specializes in tea, they have some coffee. They have bulk tea that I found out yesterday from the owner they have blended for them. I had never asked before. They have a website that you can order from. Www.myteazone.com. It's not cheap but it is soo good. I do go to the oriental markets, also Mexican, Italian, African, Greek, mid eastern. I work in downtown Kansas city and drive through an area on my way home that is very "transitional" I guess you could call it. It's an ever evolving area, high crime, mostly low income, a couple areas with old restored amazing mansions, a very multi ethnic population. I do not go there at night. There are many small to tiny groceries with foods from all over the world, they don't look like much from the outside, some are good,/interesting some are scary. One in an old drugstore has lots of whole grains, teas and spices geared to mid-eastern cooking. I love to experiment with different foods. As many if you know I collect cookbooks and cook from them, I will count them when I move them to their new bookcases later this spring.

Grey sky warning! :D Must be in heaven. Try dejarling tea if you like mushroom. Good quaility dejarling often contains mushroom. I love the stuff.

NM, love dejarling, didn't know it has mushrooms, it does usually have caffeine. I don't have any at the moment. Believe me, I'm a caffeine addict, trying to go with mostly herbal teas at home, maybe the tea store has a decaf one, I will look next time and check the ingredients. It's been a very gray winter, I relish any day with sun.

That beings said, breaking out the espresso pot.

Love it!!! You just want me to be bad, already had a whole pot of my really strong coffee. I hid my espresso machine in a cabinet so I would not be so tempted. Laughing, drinking herb tea and ice water. Waiting on leftover stuffed mushrooms to get hot. Dehydrator looks so pretty just loaded it with sliced papaya, sliced green peppers, and cranberries. Both for me and trying making parrot food for Gabby. More to go in as those get dry.

In northern Maine we have no 'ethnic' groceries unfortunately(we are lucky to have one 'granola store' in town). Thanks for the link, I just placed a sizable order lol. I'm too old to be stingy on what makes me happy anymore!

Hope you are happy with your order. Northern Maine is pretty much country New England with some French scattered in. The detox is delish, my favorite so far. When I moved to Kansas city in 1978 from the Boston area and New York, I really missed the varied cuisines, if it wasn't southern or barbecue you couldn't find it. I ended up living in a more rural area growing all kinds of veggies, after several years joined a co-op with mostly transplants from both coasts and we ordered whole foods. Moved back to the city in 1996, the area has changed since then with the influx of people from other countries. I've been exploring more of the options since leaving my 2nd ex in 2006.

Yep I moved here from Boston. Culture shock to say the least. I am learning to let the internet bring me my favorite things. I do, however, love my garden and running/hiking here. There's always an upside if you look for it lol.

Northern Maine is beautiful!! No internet when I moved here or would have done the same. Love Boston. I'm country at heart, lived in the country most of my life but love the choices living in the city.

Note to self, only visit Maine, do not move there. I would die! ok I would whine like a big baby. I've been trying to get the girlfriend to cut back on coffee I wonder if she would notice I switched her coffee for tea.

Grins, Maine is beautiful, in the winter cold and many years has lots of snow. I'd definitely notice if someone switched my coffee for tea!!!
