Okay here is our heating situation for those interested LOL.
We had the woodburner installer come around to measure up and see what our situation was. He agrees that the chimney needs to be removed all the way in the inside of the wall - right down.
This is actually good news as it means we will be getting a free-standing fire rather than the insert as it is now. Lots more heat and the one he recommended has an area for cooking which will be great in the probable winter power cuts this winter.
The only hassle is that we have to get an approved builder in to remove the chimney structure inside (the chimney above the roof has already been removed, might take 1 - 2 days to totally removed the rest, the installer thinks. Only then can we go onto the priority installation list, which is about 2 -3 weeks long right now!
So it seems it could be another month before we get heating.
My mum and dad are so awesome, they brought around warm pjs and slippers for me, and have lent us their little electric heater. I try not to use it much so we don't have an insane electricity bill, but it helps to take the edge off the cold. They rock! They got the official word that their house will be demolished. :( Please pray for them!
On my facebook page I linked to some more photos of our city, taken by one of our city councillors. I have my own photos that I should put up sometime today.

I woke up after 4am this morning - probably by aftershocks. They have been a bit quieter this week but we all know that it won't last sadly.....
