A good Tuesday to all.

Temps were pretty mild this AM, thought, it's been a while since i ran, let's test the knee. All good. got in three miles before the rain later. Don't feel like i need to ice the knee, or that it has that little catch and bite after a pretty solid run. Again, I may try to get in a run every third or fourth day before it gets too too cold this year. see if i can't control the irritation in the joint.

Otherwise, chasing my last pound - could be this week, could be next. Whatever the case, this last round of weight loss i have been much easier on myself. no guilt, no anger ... just modifications, fluctuations, and commitment. feels sustainable.

There is a terribly deflating article, based on some studies, from the NYT going around social media - i am sure you've seen it - that it is "scientifically proven that permanent weight loss is not possible" or that "fat is incurable" ... come on ... really? the message is so insidious, it seems criminal. the study is observational, and not biological, nor does it examine all the critical hormones involved in weight loss, weight gain - processed versus unprocessed food - in the name of "science" it is merely an observational study of willpower and failure to find the right lifestyle change that works to maintain a healthy and fit life.

diet is a noun. not a verb. not an adjective. we need to eradicate the verb and adjective from all dictionaries.

i only journal this as a friend of mine, whose particular viewpoint on weight loss is evident(i.e. everyone else shut up if you think everyone can be fit, i choose to be unhealthy), that i couldn't help but get caught up in her post on FB because the headline alone is morally deflating ... and there is no biological or nutritional evidence in it - all psychological. The idea that our bodies biologically are programmed to store energy when we can eat ... in this food full country, does complicate our issues ... and that was the only scientific point made, in my mind. it is about awareness. it does take effort - the study basically says we lack effort. i choose to believe otherwise as i and all the good folks on this site work hard every day in the name of health and spirit. it can be permanent - i refuse to believe otherwise.

Way to go with the run :) and no ice after that is always a good thing.

I haven't seen the article but it sure sounds like a huge waste of time and money if they came up with a conclusion like that. Good that you were able to do the run and not have to ice up.

Outstanding that you can do your run and not have to treat your knee with ice. Just a note: I know plenty of people who were obese, lost a ton of weight and kept it off for a long period of time. If you didn't know these people, you would never have guessed that they were once obese. Of course, if you loose a bunch of weight, and don't maintain your weight and go back to the old ways, you will gain it all back. Key word is maintain a healthy lifestyle change.

Yeah the knee into requiring ice is huge. As far as the article, I unfortunately came across another one in nyt, called "the fat trap". Very disheartening, pointing out biological factors versus psychological. Not to say it can't be overcome but it points out why it is so very difficult to maintain. Everyone needs to be vigilant. For life. And understand how their bodies respond to the weight loss.
