logana1's Journal, 04 April 2011

I'm feeling pretty good these last few days. Since April 1 I have got up every morning and at least weighed myself on my Wii Fit to get my little stamp for the day. I've worked out every day but 2 days (half ain't bad).

There was a new program developed this year by my company. While most of the program is the same, new parts have been added to it. A lot of the program is "voluntary" in the sense that if you don't do it, X amount of money gets taken out of your paycheck for a various amount of weeks. So you're a bit forced to take this online questionare about your health. I did mine and didn't hear anything for a few months after.

About February I got a call saying that I have been picked to participate in yet another "voluntary" program to talk to an over the phone nurse 4 times a year about a red flag in my answers. Now this program also has the money taken out of paycheck result if I choose not to participate, so of course I do it for the first month. At first I found this a little invasive and a bit seedy of my company to force their employees to participate in programs about their health. Isn't that what a doctor is for?

Anyway, the first phone call was, "Yes", "No", "I weigh 220 lbs" "I'm 5'2" kind of questions. Answer all of those and obviously they want to talk about my weight. I spoke with my obgyn last year about my weight concerns as I plan to eventually have a family. Her suggestion was to get to a healthy weight and with a plan to have kids in the next 4 years, I had plenty of time to do so gradually.

The nurse called again today, as per our appointment scheduled in the last phone call, and we went over a lot of the same questions. Then it came time to talk about my weight and when I told her I had lost 2 lbs (roughly) she got so excited for me. She almost sounded proud. As if to say out of her whole day, I was her bright moment that she got to record in my file. I have to admit, this made me happy. It was nice to have someone be so excited for me.

After her and I talked methodology for my weight loss, she got a little curious. "Have you taken a class on nutrition?" she asked. "Actually, I was a nutrition major in college when I first started. I switched when I couldn't handle the chemistry." I replied. "Well that explains it all! You know what you're doing," as she continued she warned me to keep my weight loss in check and of course not to lose too much to fast otherwise she might get suspicious of an eating disorder. I assured her that at a starting weight of 235 lbs, the only disorder I had was not picking the right life style.

After having that all sink in after a great day at work and a good day following my diet, 64 oz of water and all, I'm feeling pretty good about my 2 lb loss today. :)

As you should! Give yourself a standing ovation, because not everyone can lose 2lbs right away. :) You're doing great. Just keep pushing yourself and you'll get to your goal before you know it! :D
