Well I have had to adjust my exercise and fitness plans. We have had heavy smoke and unhealthy air for the past 10 days. I'm in central Oregon (Bend), but much of the Northwest is affected. I am staying indoors and using my asthma inhaler.
My strategies for making it through this tough time include:
Indoor cycling. I bought the exercise bike for winter, but it is coming in handy during the air quality alert periods also!
Light weights and yoga in the living room.
The air quality tends to improve slightly (to "unhealthy for sensitive groups") for a brief period in the afternoon. If possible, I do a short neighborhood in the afternoon during the reprieve.
Healthy eating. No sense in aggravating the forced inactivity by binging on ice cream and cookies!
I'm leaving for a mini vacation with friends tomorrow. We rented a cabin on the slopes of Mount Hood (Oregon). We should be well above the smoke layer. I'm looking forward to hiking again!
