I've had two huge NSV's over the last week.

In the U.K. it is standard practice to prescribe statins to someone who has had a stroke or heart attack whether you have high cholesterol or not. I'm constantly battling neurological fatigue and the fatigue caused by chronic anaemia and decided that battling the sluggishness caused by the statins was one daily fight too many and so I stopped taking them at the beginning of the year. My doctor was not happy but agreed to do a blood test and decide what to recommend based on the results. Currently my total cholesterol is 4.2mmol/L and so she agreed that I could stay off the statins and I don't have to have another test for six months. I still have some work to do before I am happy with the LDL/HDL ratio but my doctor is completely happy.

Yesterday we drove over to Bridgnorth to cheer my brother as he crossed the finish line after completing a 22 mile hill walk (we did this walk together two years ago before I started having problems with chronic anaemia and it is one of my goals to complete it with him next year). By the time we were heading home, my daughter and partner decided that they were too hungry to wait until we got home to eat. I found myself sitting in a car with two people who were eating chips (fries for my U.S. friends) can you imagine the smell? I didn't even taste one, waited until we got home and had my planned salad. I don’t believe that even the best chip in the world would have tasted as good as my self-control made me feel.
