ReneefromLA's Journal, 03 March 2014

I'm not really sure why I gained (other than maybe some hormonal stuff that started yesterday?). Every day that I hit 2,000 calories I worked out for almost an hour so I know that I didn't gain 6 pounds of fat in a week. Typically, it takes a month or so for me to see any sort of result from working out while dieting. If I don't workout while cutting calories, then I lose instantly. But I realize that exercise is just as important as diet (not more, not less) to preventing hypertension and diabetes in the long run. Basically, I don't want to have the problems my mom, grandma, aunts, uncles, and cousins do. I'm the only one that doesn't have high blood pressure in my family and I'd like to keep it that way. Plus, I'd like to be a positive and healthy influence to my future children (if I ever have any, that is). I'm just going to assume that everything I gained was water weight and see where I am next week.

Another issue that may be contributing, I'm not sure though, is the fact that I injured my left hip last week. MSP is a frozen tundra that is still covered in black ice and that includes my work parking lot. I slid about 7 feet (didn't fall though!) until I was able to grab hold to a SUV as I passed while trying to get from my car to my office. I ended up having to take prescription strength painkillers Thursday and Friday and even had to leave work a little early on Friday. I tried to spend as much time laying down over the weekend to take the pressure off of my joint and allowing it to heal. I was a little sad about this as I love going to the gym on the weekend. I'm able to get to the weights and machines without having to wait or push my way through a throng of sweaty boys. Oh well, I'll start back today and see how it goes with everything (crowding in the gym, hip pain, etc.).

Inflammation and that time of the month can both cause swelling and water weight gain. Stay hydrated, stay on plan and take care. The scale will eventually catch up.
