LightBlue62's Journal, 03 February 2014

Decided yesterday to switch from Atkins to carb-cycling. While I lost quickly with Atkins, it's just too restrictive for me at this point. I had great difficulty eating enough calories per day, and worst of all, my appetite was almost always depressed. I did not like having to force myself to eat. I love food...that was just too weird for me. From what I've been reading, carb-cycling, when done properly, works well, as will any diet. Doing the "turbo cycling," via Chris Powell's diet: Two days low carb, one day high carb, two days low, one day high, then a "free" day in which you eat whatever you want, not going over 1000 calories beyond your typical calorie-per-day intake. Today and tomorrow, are low carb. We'll see how it goes after a couple weeks. Anyone else out there doing carb cycling or have ever tried it? Please let me know how what you think. Thanks.

Interesting!! I have NEVER heard of such a plan! But it sounds like a good one!? I know how you feel exactly about having that depressed appetite, and forcing yourself to eat. I am the same way, but notice it's the worst in me when I have all raw leaf lettuce type stuff, all 12-15g of it. Appetite has improved tremendously now that I've backed down on that, keeping it at a nice salad of greens in the afternoon and cooked broccoli/caulif in the evening. I found myself really missing that feeling of being HUNGRY and then the idea of feeling that satisfaction after you eat. LOL crazy. But good luck to you on this change of plans!!! I'm going to have to read a bit about it to see exactly how it works. Thanks for sharing!

Babe53...thanks for your input. There's a lot of info out there about carb-cycling. Check out Dr. Oz's site featuring Chris Powell. There is a series of three videos in which Chris demonstrates the plan with sample meals for a high carb and a low carb day. Bodybuilders have been eating this way for years... I have found great info online. Here's a link that really simplifies the diet. I like this guy's approach because it's very no-nonsense. I used to lift weights (not bodybuilding, just for general) but don't anymore. Though I may start doing very light weights a couple days a week. The more muscle you have, the better your body burns fat. Anyway, here are a few links to carb cycling: http://www.scrawnytobrawny.com/fat-burning-machine -- This is aimed at bodybuilders but it would apply to anyone. Here's a link to Chris Powell's carb cycling: http://chrispowell.webfactional.com/turbo-carb-cycling-program/

Huh...the link keeps getting cut off when I copy and paste it. Well, just Google Chris Powell or check out Oz's site, if you're interested.

My husband did it four years ago and lost 40 lbs. He has kept most of it off. I don't plan to "officially" do carb-cycling, but on my husband's advice, I am sort of accidentally doing it. Good luck!
