MrsWitzke's Journal, 28 December 2010

My first day - the anxiety is clawing at my stomach already. It seems the biggest pitfall of a diet is that I end up thinking about food sooo much. I'm obsessed with it, dieting makes me HUNGRY no doubt about it. I swear every diet I go on gets me a gain of at least 5 pounds. So this time I'm trying it on my own - no disparaging looks from co-workers, friends and family when I fail. This is my PERSONAL journey for me alone and if I'm going to succeed I need to be able to do so when nobody is looking...

Whatever you do to lose weight, you need to keep doing to maintain it (but with more calories). Build your diet around whole foods. Get in plenty of protein and high fiber to keep you satiated all day long. Cabbage for lunch will leave you light headed and starving by dinner. Eating 5 or 6 smaller meals with some protein at each meal is a great way to keep your metabolism going. Lot's of lean protein, dairy, fruits and veggies. You need to eat enough to fuel your metabolism or it slows down and stores food for as fat. Protein shake at breakfast is a good start or some yogurt and fruit, veggies and hummus, cheese stick with fruit or veggies, salad/chicken, etc.

Thank you - yes I learned the hard way about the cabbage - low calorie and filling at the time BUT that feeling didn't last long, which is a bummer cuz I LOVE steamed cabbage. I did well and held out until dinner and made sure to include more protein there. I stuck to much smaller portion sizes than I would normally have and was surprised at how full I was.
