flaxseed's Journal, 04 January 2009

Well its the end of day 3 and everything has gone fine. Knee still pretty sore, but rest and ice seems to be the answer. Its amazing what you can do sitting down! Like most people at the start of the year, I've been musing over what I've done in the last one and what I've learned about my diet and me. I now know that my body doesn't handle carbohydrates very well and I put on if I have more than 2 a day. I've also realised I still think I'm bigger than I really am now - my brain hasn't caught up with my body image yet. This new eating pattern is fine at home but the minute I go away or eat out it all goes to pot. I've just got to get this sorted (or become a recluse). There's lots of good things I like at my half way stage - I can go into regular shops and buy clothes, I've got a bigger choice of foods to eat, my joints don't protest so much, my recent blood results were super and medication halved, I'm enjoying swimming and the exercise I can do, I've got more confidence and best of all when I catch sight of myself in glass doors or windows I don't cringe. Imagine what it will be like this time next year.

I'm feeling really optimistic about this new year - my daughter and husband have both beaten cancer and are in good health now and even though I still miss my mom I know how pleased she would be if she could see me now. All I have to do now is keep going and sort out this holiday and eating out thing.

I know I couldn't have done this without FS and my FS buddies, so thanks to you all and a slim and happy 2009.
